The full value of a hay crop cannot be
saved without it ; by its use a perfect cur-
ing of the grass is effected, and the result
is a hay with all its nutritive qualities fully
preserved and free from dirt and grit.
The forks toss the hay so evenly that it
falls lightly to the ground, thoroughly open
to the air and its influence to cure and dry
rapidly.
The crank shaft, upon which
arms are journaled, is one piece of solid
steel and is revolved by the full power of
both of the tedder wheels, through a chain
drive operating from the center of the axle.
In all tedders having a crank shaft of two
distinet pieces, it is impossible to keep the
forks properly spaced ; in turning a corner
one part of the shaft and the forks attached
to it will be out of action ; the forks are
thus thrown out of the proper relation to
each other and the result is a crop of badly
tedded hay and a rapid wearing machine.
‘With the solid crank shaft of the Osborne
the forks are always in their correct posi-
tions, whether in turning a corner or tedd-
ing straight ahead.
The Osborne Roller’ Bearings are again
conspicuous in their application to lessen
friction ; three of them are onthe axle and
assist to decrease the draft of the machine
and add power to the workirg parts.
The Forks, forged from crucible steel, are
journaled upon the tubular steel arms, with
the points of the tines rearward of their pi-
vots, so that any obstruction will cause
them to give quickly without danger of
bending or breaking. Each fork is rein-
forced by a strong steel spring adding to
its flexible and durable qualities.
The forks outside of the wheels ted any
hay the wheels pass over. The power op-
erating the crank shaft is thrown is or out
of gear by a lever convenient to the driver.
The for’:s can be made to ted as close to
the ground as desired, by means of a lever
close to the seat.
All jarring and jolting resulting from
travel over rough or stony ground is com-
pensated for by strong coiled springs on the
front of the tedder frame. The driver's
seat, mounted on a steel standard, is adjust
able. All bearings are easy to oil. Gom-
bination pole and shafts are furnished with
every tedder.
