recruit training at the
Marine Corps Recruit De-
pot, Parris Island, S.C.
During the 11-week train-
ing cycle, he learned the
basics of battlefield sur-
vival. He was introduced to
the typical daily routine that
he will experience during
his enlistment, and he
studied the personal and
professional standards trad-
itionally exhibited by Ma-
rines.

Kanoff, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Kanoff of 9 West
Elizabeth Street, Maytown,
recently received a para-
chutist badge upon comple-
tion of the three-week
airborne course at the U.S.
Army Infantry School, Fort
Benning, Ga.
During the first week of
training, students under-
went a rigorough physical
training program and re-
ceived instruction in the
theory of parachuting. The
second week they received
pratical training by jumping
from 34-foot and 250-foot
towers. The final week
included five staticline para-
chute jumps.

Spec. 4 Leslie D. Randler,
son of Fanny Randler of
Mount Joy, has completed a
U.S. Army primary leader-
ship course at Fort Comp:
bell, Ky.
He received training in
supervisory skills, leader-
ship principles: and small
unit training techniques
essential to a first-line
supervisor in a shop or office
environment.
Spec. Randler is a cook at
Fort Campbell.

Johanna Snyder, daugh-
ter of Robert and Margaret
Snyder, Columbia RDI, is
dancing in the Pennsylvania
Ballet production of ‘‘The
Nutcracker’’ which opened
last Wednesday at the
Academy of Music in
Philadelphia.
Johanna will be featured
in The Dance of the Hoops
movement in Act II of the
Christmas ballet.
The young ballet artist is
a student at the Pennsyl-
vania Ballet School in
Philadelphia, one of just
three school’s in the nation
affiliated with a professional
ballet company. She also
participated in the school’s
coveted six-week summer
program which includes a
daily practice session as well
as classes in jazz and
modern dance.
Johanna, a sophomore at
St. Joseph Academy in
Columbia, studies ballet
locally under Irma Millard at
Dancer’s Workshop in Lan-
caster. She is currently
studying at level four at
Pennsylvania Ballet School
which observes six levels of
professionalism.
Johanna’s training sche-
dule includes her formal
academic schooling, local
dance instruction, and thrice
weekly lessons at the
Pennsylvania Ballet School
in Philadelphia.
This is Johanna’s second
consecutive year in the
company’s annual perform-
ance of ‘‘Nutcracker,”” but
she has moved up into the
first echelon of its three-cast
line-up.
Upcoming performances
include Dec. 28, Jan. 2 and
4, at 8 pm, and Dec. 27 and
29 at 2 pm.

marries Benton Atkins
The marriage of Miss
Mary Beth’ McComsey to
Benton Curtis Atkins took
place Saturday, Dec. 20, at 7
pm at St. James Lutheran
Church, Columbia, with the
Rev. George Post and the
Rev. Norman Hofeld of-
ficiating.
The bride is the grand-
daughter of Mrs. Ada Mc-
Comsey, Columbia RDI,
and the late Ludwig Mec-
Comsey. ‘She graduated
from Donegal High School
and is employed by WSBA
Radio, York.

honor. Bridesmaids were:
Christine Mohr, sister of the
bride, Elizabethtown; Robin
Rahn, sister of the bride,
Lititz; Kelly McComsey,
sister of the bride, Mount
Joy; and Heidi Weidner,
Mount Joy.
Flower girl was Cynthia
McComsey, Mount Joy, and
Marty Herman, Felton,
was ringbearer.
Serving as best man was
George Eveler III of Felton.
Ushers were: Mike Atkins,
brother of the bridegroom,
Red Lion; Tim Atkins,
brother of the bridegroom,
Felton; Robert Bennett,
Felton; and Eric Dobbs, Red
Lion.
The couple will live in
Davenport, Iowa.
