VERNA M. GROVE Verna Mummau Grove, 8S, of Mount Joy RD2, died last Tuesday at her daugh- ter’'s home in Manheim following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Norman W. Grove and a daughter of the late Abram W. and Mary Reist Mum- mau. She was born in Mount Joy Township. Mrs. Grove belonged to the Elizabethtown Menno- nite Church and was active in the church sewing circle. She is survived by a son, Lester M., Mount Joy RD2; a daughter, Charlotte G., wife of Richard E. Miller, Manheim RD4; 13 grand- children; 12 great-grand- children; a sister, Mary R. Rohrer, Manheim RDS; and four brothers: Levi R. Mummau, Elizabethtown RD1; Abram R. Mummau, Manheim RDS; Reist R. Mummau, Farmville, Va.; and Paul R. Mummau, Elizabethtown RD3. STELLA E. MAY Stella E. May, 78, of 142 West Front St., Marietta, died last Monday at the Columbia Hospital after an ilines of several weeks. She was the widow of Henry S. May. Born in York County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Ellen Fryshinger. She was a member of the Lutheran faith. Surviving are two sons, William H., with whom she resided, and Samuel F. Sr., Columbia RDI; five daugh- ters, Pauline, wife of Carl F. Bender Sr., Elizabethtown; Ethel, wife of Walter Fry, Elizabethtown; Florence Jones, Columbia RD1; El- lenora, wife of Ray Norton, Marietta; and Helen, wife of Paul E. Shertzer,. 68, Mount Joy RD2, died last Tuesday. She was the wife of J. Lloyd Shertzer. Born in East Hempfield Township, she was the daughter of the late J.J. Henry and Annie Groff Brubaker. She was an employee of the former Epler Nursing Home, Mountville. An active gardener, she and her husband maintained a local produce route. Mrs. Shertzer was a member of Stauffer’s Men- nonite Church, Hershey RD1, where she taught Sunday School. In addition to her hus- band, she is survived by: a son, J. Daniel Shertzer, Elizabethtown RD1; a daughter, Pauline E., wife of Paul S. Groff, Manheim; and eight grandchildren. RUSSEL SHEETZ SR. Russel L. Scheetz Sr., 63, of 211 Mount Joy St., Mount Joy, died last Thursday at the Osteopathic Hospital. He had been under a physi- cian’s care since retirement. He retired from Wenger Feed Mill, Inc., Rheems, in April, 1979, after being employed there for 33'2 years. He ‘was the husband of Dorothy Mae Bowers December 17, 1980 Scheetz and the son of the late Robert P. and Stella Wolfensburger Scheetz. He was born in Dauphin County. Mr. Scheetz lived in Elizabethtown until moving to Mount Joy four years ago. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two sons, Russell Jr. and Nicholas T., both at home; a sister, Kathryn Caplinger, Harris- burg; five brothers, Robert T. and William Earl Sr., both of Middletown; How- - ard, Columbia; Carl, Eliza- bethtown, and Roy, Leba- non. Marietta Lions hear Terrence Shope, broom sale progress, at last meeting The Marietta Lions, at their last monthly meeting, listened to club secretary Terrence Shope describe his experiences while working as a surveyor in Israel for the past year. His surveying job was in preparation of an air field to be built by the United States. More than a billion dollars are being used for the construction. Lion president Edgar Appley conducted the bus- iness meeting, and Harry Pittenturf, Jr., reported 136 brooms sold thus far in the door-to-door broom project. The next meeting of the Lions will be held Thursday, January 6, with the Eliza- bethtown Lions at Hostet- ters Banquet Hall in Mount Joy. All members are urged to attend.
