Outstanding hockey players honored at year-end party Thursday night The Donegal hockey team ended its 1980 season with an informal pizza party at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy, on Thursday, November 20. Each class of hockey players, and also the coaches, presented a skit as part of the evening's entertainment. The skits, all very creative in nature, centered around a scene from the hockey season. Each of the seniors from the team then received a special ‘‘Super Senior” trophy for outstanding atti- tude, play and leadership. Seniors were: Joann Storm, Colleen Jones, Gina Mohr, Betsy Germer, Sherry Derr and Brenda Hershey. Co-captains Sherry Derr and Brenda Hershey were commended on jobs very well done. Outstanding individual trophies based on team votes were then awarded. Martha Wilkinson re- ceived both the Most Valuable Player on the jayvee team trophy and the Most Improved jayvee tro- phy. Karen Mummaw received the Most Improved Varsity player trophy. Multiple winners were Sherry Derr and Brenda Hershey. Sherry received the Most Outstanding Offensive play- er award for the varsity team, as well as the Norlanco Club Hockey Most Valuable Player award. Brenda Hershey was named Most Outstanding Defensive player for the varisty team, and she also received the ‘‘Great Green Spirit” award for her winning attitude. Also, a special highlight of the party was the announcing of three Done- gal hockey players named to the Lancaster Intell’s All- Star team. These players, selected by county coaches and officials, are Sherry Derr, Betsey Germer and Brenda Hershey. The hockey team finished in third place in their tough section with a seven and three league record, and 13 and four over-all record. The only games lost were all by one goal. “This really was an outstanding team,”” said varsity coach Joyce Zangari. “They were more than just fine hockey players. They were really special kids. The coaches and the entire team will miss the six seniors next year.” Jayvee and varsity cap- tains presented both Coach Zangari and Jayvee Coach Jill Schupp with special gifts.
