Vol. 80, No. 43, October 29, 1980 FIFTEEN CENTS Maynard Ferguson at DHS tonight Maynard Ferguson in action Group from Cocalico delights in Marietta Forty members of the Cocalico Area Historical Society visited Marietta last Saturday, October 25, host- ed by the Marietta Restora- tion Associates. The group, primarily from the borough of Ephrata, plans only one bus trip a year and decided to come to Marietta because of the interesting restoration work being done. They began their day with an orientation session at the Associates headquarters at 36 West Market Street, and then boarded their bus for a guided tour of the town. After this tour they visited the Old Town Hall Museum, the home of Mrs. Aline deVitry on the square, and various downtown shops. After lunch at the Candy Shoppe, the group was entertained by the organ and old-time movies at the Marietta Theatre. Many members of the tour expressed surprise at the great variety of histor- ical architecture found in the borough. Despite the rain, they had a ‘‘delightful day’ and many are planning to return for the Marietta candlelight Tour to be held Sunday, December 7, from 2to 7 pm. The Maynard Ferguson orchestra will be performing at Donegal High School tonight, October 29, at 8 pm. As the Susquehanna Times went to press there were still some tickets available. For ticket inform- ation call the school at 653-1871. The cultural event is being sponsored by the Donegal Band Club, and it will be the biggest project ever undertaken by the organization. The Maynard Ferguson orchestra is made up of 13 members in addition to Maynard. All the members are excellent musicians in The Mount Joy Lions Club will be holding their semi- annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, November 1, from 6:30 to 11 am at the Lions’ Activity Building next to the swimming pool. Tickets are available from any Lions member and will also be available at the door. the jazz-rock idiom. They come from all over the world and spend a great deal of time on the road touring. Maynard, S52, started playing the trumpet at age 14 and has been playing professionally for most of his life. He attracts a large number of followers from all different age groups be- cause of his feel for change. He started out playing only jazz, but he now blends the jazz with all the elements of music. The Band Club invites all to come take advantage of this opportunity to see the band. Mount Joy Lions Club plans pancake breakfast The menu includes pan- cakes, sausage, juice and coffee, and will be prepared and served by Lions mem- bers. This breakfast is spon- sored by the Lions as part of their continuing fund-rais- ing efforts for community projects. NW Life Support Unit opens house Saturday The Northwest Advanced Life Support Unit will hold an open house this Satur- day, November 1, beginning at 2 pm. Medic 7-17 will officially be put into service at that time. The headquarters of the unit is located in the former Scout House in the Eliza- bethtown Community Park. All are invited to attend. Brenda Hershey was Brenda Hershey, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hershey, R.D.#1, Marietta, was crowned Homecoming Queen for Donegal High School at Friday night’s football game. Brenda was crowned by Margaret Meszaros, the 1979 Homecoming Queen. She was escorted by Robert Hess. Runner up and maid of honor in the event was Jennifer Mylin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Emswi- ler, R.D.1, Marietta, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mylin, Lancaster. She was escorted by Duane Musser. Additional members of the court were: Roxanne Shank, escorted by Barry Geltmacher; Cheryl Grimm, crowned 1980 Donegal Homecoming Queen at a coronation held before last Friday’s football game with Norlebco. She served on Booster Club and Varsity Club for three years, Student Council and track for two years, and softball for one year. This year she is president of the Booster Club, co- captain of the hockey team and captain of the basketball cheerleading squad. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. B-ball Booster Club The Donegal Boys’ Bas- ketball Booster Club will meet in the high school cafeteria on Thursday, Oc- tober 30 at 7:30 pm. Anyone interested in supporting the program is cordially invited to attend the meeting.
