Martin Shoop and Joyce Nissley test the course for the Great Wine Race and
Barrel Roll Competitions to be held at Nissley Vineyards October 11 from 2 to 6
pm. The challenging course winds through the vineyard and creek of the
winery located off Route #441 near Bainbridge. If you plan to participate, dress for
sport. Phone 426-3514 for additional information.
Farm Women’s Society No. 8 meets
Farm Women’s Society #8
members enjoyed several
educational trips in Septem-
ber. Early in the month they
went to Shady Maple where
they were entertained by
that Farm Women’s Society.
The were served tasty food
and were shown many
things of interest.
Later in the month, they
took a bus trip to Annapolis,
Maryland. This was a
harbor trip, and the group
took a forty minute boat
cruise. Ethel Herr and
Margaret Heisey were in
charge of the trip details,
which included a meal in a
seafood house.
The Society met at the
home of Grace Bixler on
September 27. 26 members
and one visitor attended.
Kathryn Heisey, president
of the Society, presided over
the meeting.
Members joined in sing-
ing ‘““We Plow the Fields
and Scatter,” lead by Mary
Joni Eareckson film
coming to State Theatre
World Wide Pictures film,
“Joni,” based on the real
life drama of Joni Eareck-
son, will play at the State
Theatre, Columbia, begin-
ning next Friday, October
10. Joni plays herself in the
film at protrays
anguish, courage and faith
following a tragic diving
accident in the Chesapeake
her
Bay. The healthy, athletic
girl is turned into a
quadriplegic as a result of
the accident.
The movie follows Joni’s
long road to recovery where
she learned to draw on her
faith in God.

Grace Martin and accomp-
anied on the piano by
Pauline Miller.
Devotions were lead by
Mary Grace Martin.
Anna Mae Derr, secre-
tary, read the minutes of
recent activities and took the
roll call.
The treasurer’s report
was given by Hettie Ginder,
and the Sunshine Commit-
tee reported notes of thanks
from those who were
hospitalized lately.
Grace Bixler had the main
feature of the afternoon. She
gave pointers on the
successful growing of
dahlias and showed blooms
from her own garden.
Hostesses were Grace
Bixler, Elizabeth Shuman,
Ruth Drager and Mary
Shaeffer.
It was announced that
‘some members will sew at
the General Hospital on
October 2.
The next meeting will be
held at the home of Alice
Myers, Mount Joy RD#1.
The date is October 18. Vera
Cox will present the main
feature at the 2 pm meeting.
