available to amateur gene-
alogists attempting to trace
their roots through the state
of Pennsylvania. Designed
to help researchers locate
important early records of
their ancestors, the service
is broken down into three
significant areas: a will
index search; a naturaliza-
tion records search; and an
early land warrants search.
The county will index
search provides the genealo-
gist with an inventory of all
people by his surname who
left wills in a particular
county; the -year each will -
was probated; plus any
additional information that
may be listed (e.g., volume/
page of the original record,
file number, name of
administrator or executor,
place of residence, etc).
The search of county
naturalization abstracts pro-
duces a list of all people by a
particular surname who
were naturalized in a
county; the date each
became a citizen of the
United States; plus any
additional information that
may be contained in the lists
(e.g., country and county of
origin, port and date of
entry to U.S., age, resi-
dence, sponsors’ names,
etc).
An examination of early
land warrant rolls provides
the researcher with a roster
of all people with a
particular surname in a
county who are listed as
having received such land
warrants; the number of
acres involved; and the date
of survey.
For a listing of the
Pennsylvania counties avail-
able to be searched, and the
years covered for each
county, researchers should
send a long self-addressed
stamped envelope to: Shir-
ley G. McQuillis, Search
Director, ‘Pennsylvania
Roots,”” R.D.2 Box 180,
Ligonier, PA 15658.
