CALL IN NEWS.....to Hazel Baker [Marietta] 426-3643 Cherie Dillow [Mount Joy] 653-1609 The Susquehanna Times 426-2212 or 653-8383 SUSQ. Vol. 80, No. 39, October 1, 1980 Columbia ‘Hello, Dolly!’ is a rolicking success The Columbia Little The- ater launched its new home in the State Theater on Locust Street in Columbia last week with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a rousing performance of ‘“‘Hello, Dolly!” The musical, about a turn- of-the-century matchmaker who sets out to make a match for herself, is lively, comic, and full of memor- able tunes. The Columbia Little The- ater version of ‘‘Dolly’’ is a happy one. The cast is bright and lively. Janet Walker and Chet Zercher, in the lead roles of Dolly Levi and Horace Vandergelder, provide professional histri- onics and singing with a sure comic touch. Mount Joy's Sandy Heisey plays the romantic part of Mrs. Molloy with stunning vocal ability. Sam Taylor, in his New Era review of the show, says Sandy ‘‘looks like a young Ethel Merman and her voice in the lower registers also has a strong resemblance to the familiar Merman ‘belt.’ ”’ Mary Jane Demmy of Marietta, who is stage manager of ‘‘Dolly,”” has been a strong guiding force in the Columbia Little Theater since its inception. The opening of its new home in Columbia with this production of ‘‘Dolly’’ is a tribute to her dedication to grass-roots theater. And ‘“‘Dolly’’ is grass- roots theater at it finest. The acting is excellent, the singing is superb, the dancing is dynamic, the music supplied by a pit orchestra is appropriately brassy. The theater’s acoustics are good, the seats are roomy and comfortable, the view of the stage is clear. The seats are reason- ably priced, and Columbia is only minutes away. But the best part of ““Dolly’’ is that the audience loves every minute of it. Don’t miss it! ‘“‘Dolly’’ runs through October 4 nightly at 8 pm. Call 684-2273 for information. According to Donegal head coach Gayne Deshler, the game was closer than the 16-0 score indicates. “Their first touchdown and the field goal were both made with several long yardage plays on the third down. They broke away and got into scoring position,”’ related Deshler. ‘“The real turning point of the game was the third period,’’ he continues.
