Maytown Fire Company Receives new ‘‘fold-a-tank” The Maytown-East Don- egal Fire Company last Tuesday received a 2500 gallon fold-a-tank to aid in rural area fire fighting. The holding tank is made of acralon, a material stronger than nylon, and will be mounted on the existing LM tank truck to by used in areas where hydrants are not available or there is a shortage of water. The new piece of equip- ment, ‘the only one of its kind in the part of the county, will be shared with neighboring companies, ac- cording to Maytown fire chief Charles Shaffner. The tank was purchased from the Richard Bordner Co., Carlisle, and according to Richard Bordner, the tank is the ‘‘largest one in several counties.’’ The new ‘‘fold-a-tank’’ is admired by members of the Maytown-East Donegal Fire Company. After a respectable start on Friday night (Predicto called 4 correct, 2 wrong) the Doktor was, in his own words, ambushed on Satur- day. The ‘“‘upsets’’ began to take their toll. The final results of Saturday’s contests left Dr. P. with a weekend total of , six correct, seven wrong, and one tie. This week the games will all be part of league competition, making the Doktor’s job a bit easier. Donegal fans will not be pleased to hear the Predicto picks ELCO over the Indians by 34-6. Ouch! The Indians maids quickly regained their stride, however, and on Friday defeated a strong Warwick team by ‘a 4-3 score. Beth Keffer, Donegal’s number one player, won her match. Cindy Brubaker, the number three girl, also won her match. Donegal won the meet in the doubles competition when Keffer combined with Marty Miller for a win, and Brubaker and Jenny Crider also defeated a Warwick twosome. The team defeated Penn Manor Monday night by a S-2 score. Winners in singles in- cluded Marty Miller, Cindy Brubaker and Jenny Crider. Beth Keffer and Marty Miller combined for a win in doubles, as did Cindy Brubaker and Jenny Crider. Soccer loses 2 The Donegal soccer team lost two games last week by a 1-3 score. Elizabethtown defeated the Indians Wednesday. All scoring took place in the first half of the game, with Darnell Wilson scoring for Donegal in the second quarter. A strong Hempfield team, described by Donegal Coach Bernie Thome as one of the best teams in the league, defeated Donegal Friday night in overtime. The. score, at the end of regulation play, was tied 1-1. Duane Musser booted in the one Donegal goal in the second quarter. Two goals from Hempfield in overtime gave them the’ victory. Donegal’s JV soccer team tied both E-town Hempfield by 1-1 scores. This week the Indians take on their cousin Braves of Pequea Valley on Tues- day, and the Golden Mules of Solanco on Thursday. Hockey team beats A-C, loses to Cedar Crest The Donegal hockey team continued on its winning way last Tuesday by defeat- ing the girls from Annville- Cleona, 2-0. Although Donegal con- trolled the ball during much of the play, they were not able to score in the first half. Goals were scored in the second half by Betsy Germer and Sherry Derr, both part of the senior nucleus of the team. The JV team also de- feated Annville-Cleona by a 3-0 score. On Thursday Coach Joyce Zangari and her team traveled to Cedar Crest. Donegal lost the game by a 1-2 score, with all scoring done in the first half. Betsy Germer scored for DHS. Donegal continues play this week with a Wednesday game with Manheim Central at MC. On Friday, Lam- peter-Strasburg travels to Indian territory for a non-league game. Hockey games are played at 4 pm.
