Election at St. John’s
The Vicar of St. John’s
announced that the church
school will start September
14 at 10 am. All children
from pre-school age to high
school are welcome to
attend. Installation of
church school teachers will
take place at the family
service on the first day.
Father Aristede Red also
announced that the Parish
Vestry will meet for the first
time this season on Monday,
September 15, at 7 pm.
Zion Lutheran’s 125th anniversary
Plans have been com-
pleted for the 125th an-
niversary celebration of the
Zion Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Colebrook Road
and Route #441, Marietta.
Special events will take
place September 21, 24 and
28.
Sunday, September 21,
the Rev. Theodore F.
Schneider, Dean of the
Lancaster Lutheran District,
will speak at the 10:45 am
service. Soloist will be
Charles Williams, Colum-
bia, director of the Red Rose
Barber Shop Chorus. Coffee
and donuts will be served at
the conclusion of the
service.
The Wednesday ‘‘Com-
munity Night’’ will feature
an informal service with
other community pastors
and area Lutheran pastors
bringing greetings. Mrs.
Ella May Wise, former Zion
organist, will present an
organ recital prior to the
7:30 service. A birthday
party will follow the service.
Home Coming will be
observed Sunday, Septem-
ber 28, at the 10:45 am
service. The speaker will be
the Rev. Robert T. Zuch, a
son of the Zion congrega-
tion, and pastor of Faith
United Lutheran Church,
Claysburg, PA. A covered
dish social will follow the
event.
Former members of the
Zion choir are invited to
attend any or all services
and will" join the current
vocalists in singing ‘‘Great
God and God of Our
Salvation’’ under the direc-
tion of Mrs. William Rudy.
An anniversary booklet is
being printed in recognition
of the 125th anniversary
observance. The anniver-
sary committee includes:
current pastor, the Rev.
Philip Lynch; Mrs. James R.
Baker, general chairperson;
Mrs. Richard Haas, book
chairperson; Ronald Wag-
ner, Miss Ruth Wisman,
Mrs. Ella May Wise, Mr

to the memory of Maurice
Sweitzer who served on both
the 100th and 125th an-
