Mount Joy Area Leisure Club
entertains with home talent show
The Mount Joy Area
Leisure Club met recently
for their monthly meeting at
Hostetter’s Banquet Hall
with 146 members and
guests present. There was a
moment of silence for the
members who died during
the past month followed by
the invocation by Dr. Ezra
Ranck. This was the month
honoring all birthdays and
for this cake and ice cream
was served.
President Joe Shaeffer
called the business meeting
to order with the pledge of
allegiance to the flag.
Acting secretary Ruth
Brandt read the minutes and
Almeda Hostetter, treas-
urer, presented her report.
There were a lot of birthdays
and anniversaries for the
month of June, so they were
honored with the birthday
and anniversary songs.
Hettie Ginder brought roses
and those having a birthday
were presented with a rose.
Guests present were Lin-
da Boose, Mrs. Leslie Rice,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Webb, Aaron and Ann
Buckwalter, Mildred Win-
nich, Mary, Margaret and
Helen Brosey. Four new
members were added; Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Webb and
Ann and Aaron Buckwalter.
President Shaeffer an-
nounced two bus trips are
being planned: one, a tour
of Lancaster County, and
the other to Annapolis,
Md. to visit the United
States Naval Academy and a
ride on a boat. Other items
of business were discussed
Lions Club of Marietta
visits Blind Center
Members of the Marietta
Lions Club, for their last
meeting, toured the Lan-
caster County Blind Asso-
ciation and enjoyed a
catered dinner held on the
premises.
Mrs. Marion Campbell,
managing director of the
facilities, was hostess for
the club members and their
wives. She explained - the
function of the Association.
Robert Spangler, outgoing
president of the Marietta
club, presented checks a-
mounting to $150 to the
Association.

Blind Association center

assembling shoe polishing
kits. Additional items, such
as baskets, are made and
sold in the center's gift
shop. Additional products
will be manufactured as
more shop facilities are
completed.
The radio broadcasting
studio is now housed in a
temporary location and will
be moved into the new
headquarters later. This
station was the second
volunteer transmitting cen-
ter in the state with persons
broadcasting news, book
reviews and valuable in-
formation over special FM
wave lengths.
Craft, ceramic and paint-
ing classes are also offered
at the center to more than
700 handicapped persons in
the county. The classes are
taught by volunteers.
The eye clinic housed at
the center is manned by
optomitrists and opticians.
It has the latest equipment
for eye examinations and
treatments for the under-
privileged. The services will
increase as the center is
expanded.
The next meeting of the
Marietta Lions Club will be
at the home of Lion Richard
Smedley, North Gay Street,
on June 26.
Londonderry Days
“Londonderry Days’’ are
coming up on Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, July 3,
4, and S. These celebrations
will be held at Londonderry
Township's Sunset Park
located just off of Geyers
Church Road, % mile from
Rt. 441 near Middletown.
The activities will get
underway on Thursday eve-
ning, and will continue the
next two days with live
entertainment, two pig
roasts, a barter fair, arts and
crafts, food and refresh-
ments and a free donkey
baseball game.

be a picnic at Hostetters and
will begin at 12 noon.
Following the meeting bingo
will be played.
The entertainment was
strictly home talent and
opened with a newly formed
kitchen band, with Mildred
Way at the piano playing old
songs and the kitchen band
consisting of Almeda Hos-
tetter, Ruth Brandt, Ella
Germer, Miriam Gainer,
Maude Frey and Ruth Hall.
Next was a vocal solo by Jay
Sherk, accompanied by
Nellie Vogel. Then Belle
Ludwig gave a reading
followed by several accor-
dian solos by Amos Rutt.
This was followed by a
reading by Hettie Ginder
and then two songs by a
Quartet consisting of War-
ren Bentzel, Jay Sherk,
Charles Eby and Dr. Ezra
Ranck. John Brown then
took the stage and brought
laughter to the group with
his jokes. President Joe
Shaeffer then presented a
brief history of the Mount
Joy Area Leisure Club which
held their first meeting
January 10, 1966 which
started with a membership
of twenty five members.
This concluded the day's
activities, which were en-
joyed by everyone.
