Marietta High School Alumni banquet held Saturday

The Reverend Robert
Shellenberger, Kingston,
N.Y., was the speaker for
the annual Marietta High
School Alumni banquet,
held at Sherwood Knoll,
Saturday night.
Choosing as his subject,
“Our Country Needs an
Overhauling,’”” Shellenber-
ger compared the deteriora-
ting morals in country and
man as the decline in
religious beliefs.
Three additional mem-
bers of the class of 1919
were present for the occa-
sion.
The Reverend Grant Bil-
lett, York, was master of
ceremonies.
Among the 162 members
and guests present were
former teachers: Mrs. Anna
Reese Tempest, Oregon;
Mrs. Phyllis Dusinger Detz;
Hubert Peters who was
presented an armetale plate
on his recent retirement by
members of the class of 'S1.
This was the first class
Peters taught when coming
to Marietta.
The earliest class repre-
sented was 1913 with Mrs.
Anna Rich Risser.
Members of the class of
1930 were guests of the
association with six mem-
bers present: James Buc-
hanan, N. Carolina; Ernest
Detz, Marysville; Lewis
Schock, California; Ben
Rettew, Florida; Ralph Wal-
ters, Mount Joy; and Gladys
Rettew, Marietta.
Letters were read from
former teachers Harvey
Shue and R.F. Dubbs.
Prizes were won for the
following requirements: The
member of the class of 1930
who won the State Sensa-
tions Competitive Examina-
tions for Lancaster County,

vania, Audrey Patton Ben-
nett; To a female wearing
her Murietta High School
pin, Jane Kathryn Smith
Tucker; and to those
persons carrying a Susan B.
Anthony dollar.
The 1981 banquet will be
held on Saturday, June 6, at
Sherwood Knoll, Centerville
Road, Lancaster.
