Mrs. John Fry was reelected president of the Mount Joy Business and Professional Women’s Club at the April meeting at Hostetter’s. Other reelected officers are: Mrs. Ada Thompson, first vice-presi- dent; Mrs. Barry Enos, corresponding secretary; Mrs. James Baker, record- ing secretary; Mrs. Robert Bookwalter, treasurer; and Miss Mary Jane Hoffer, second vice-president. The slate was presented by Mrs. Clayton Bell, chairperson of the nomin- ating committee. Mrs. Rita Schorr-Ger- main, formerly an employee of the United Nations, spoke on the subject, ‘‘What the United Nations Does for Us.” She said that the U.N. grew out of American ideals, especially those of Woodrow Wilson, who helped found the U.N.’s forerunner, the League of Nations. Mrs. William Lambert reported that $80.25 was forwarded to the National Foundation of BPW as this club’s contribution. The revised by-laws are available to those members who have not received theirs. The president appointed these members to the Memorial Day Benefit Committee: Mrs. Donald Straub, Miss Mary Jane Hoffer, Mrs. Ada Thomp- son, Mrs. Arthur Sprecher, Mrs. Herbert Sarver and Mrs. Fry. The July activity commit- tee will include Mrs. Lester Eshleman, Mrs. Christine Brown, Mrs. Elaine Richards, Mrs. Paul Little, and Mrs. Earl Koser (chairperson). Mrs. John Fry conducted the business session and presented a report of the spring District 7 meeting. She announced that Mrs. Earl Koser will serve as District Foundation chair- person and that the District will sponsor ‘‘Man of LaMancha’’ at the Fulton Theater in August. Mrs. Eugene Eicherly and Mrs. Ben Horst reported on the Women in Government luncheon, where they were the recipients of a certificate of achievement. Two students at Donegal High, Deb Torres and Mark Wagner, entertained with Spanish and German songs. Mixed doubles tennis tourny Memorial Day The Mount Joy Tennis Club will hold a Memorial Day week-end mixed dou- bles tennis tournament. Lions hold meeting The Marietta Lion’s Club met Thursday, May 8. The speaker for the meeting was Carol Neuman, a fiscal officer for the Lancaster County Office of Mental Health and Mental Retarda- tion, Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Ms. Neuman gave a slide presentation showing the various service centers in Lancaster County. There are nine such centers, she told the group, where services and information are avail- able. President-elect Edgar Ap- pley presided over the meeting in the absence of president Bob Spangler. Discussion concerning the upcoming summer meetings and their locations occupied the greater part of the meeting. The group also discussed possible services to the community.
