Girl Scouts in the Donegal
Neighborhood, Witness
Tree District, attended
church services to kick off
the beginning of Girl Scout
week. Mount Joy troops
visited sponsoring congre-
gations while Marietta
troops attended special
services at the United
Methodist Church.
Troop #32 Mount Joy with
leaders Nancy Kopf and Ella
Gainer, have adopted as an
all-year service project—
designing the windows at
the Mount Joy Library. As a
special service the troop
donated to the president of
the library board, Anna
Milanof, a set of current girl
scout Handbooks which may
be loaned by any troop for
use. The titles of the various
programs are ‘‘Worlds to
Explore for Brownies;”’
““‘Juniprs Junior Badge and
Insignia Book;’’ Cadette
Hand Book and ‘‘Lets Make
It Happen,”’ new ideas for
seniors. Four Girl Scout
week displays of current
photos of scouting activities
have been arranged by
Troop #32.
Brownie Troop #29,
Mount Joy has placed a
display in Murphy’s Store.
Leaders of this troop are
Spring Teleky and Nancy
Kulp.
Cadette Troop #27, Mount
Joy, with Jerri May and
Beth Liggibs as advisors will
conduct a Flag ceremony
each day this week at Junior
High School while the
Senior Troop #944 will give
the announcements each
day at Donegal High School.
Georgina Hamer is the
leader of this troop. They
have also placed posters
throughout Mount Joy pro-
moting Girl Scout Week.
Brownie Troop #323,
Mount Joy with Trudi
Houck and Betty Bitzer as
leaders, has arranged to
have all the Brownies in the
neighborhood view the film
“The Yearling’’ followed by
a birthday party at Gloss-
brenner United Methodist
Church, on March 12.
Troops will also entertain
their sister troops.
Brownie Troop #34 has
placed a display in Sells
Barber Shop depicting: the
following; ‘““What Scouting
Is,”” and the three B’s of
Brownies—Be an Explorer,
Be a funmaker, and Be a
Ready Helper. Marion Mc-
Kain, Vickie Smith and Ann
Sipe are the leaders of this
troop in Marietta.
Junior Troop #18, Mari-
etta, has planned to attend
the neighborhood swim
party at Golden Meadows
Swim Club, and conduct a
fun night of games and
contests at their regular
meeting. Troop #18 has 26
members who have partici-
pated in council (Penn
Laurel), calendar, cookie
sales and made sock dolls
for the Mount Joy Chapter
Needlework Guild of Amer-
ica. They worked on Home,
Health, and Safety Badge,
and the World Neighbor
Badge. They went caroling
with Marietta Brownie
Troops #34 and #666 and
spent a day at Sam Lewis
Park, where each girl
cooked her own lunch on the
“Vagabond Stove’’ she had
made. Future schedules
include a family roller
Donegal Neighborhood Girl Scouts
observe Girl Scout Week—Mar. 9-15
skating party, a weekend
camp-out at Furnace Hills
Girl Scout Camp and an
Awards Ceremony on June
2nd. Leaders are Joyce
Heiserman and Betty Is-
minger. Brownie Troop #666
of Marietta, plans to attend
the Neighborhood Swim and
has placed a display in
Spangler Appliance Store,
W. Market Street, Marietta,
for Girl Scout Week. They
hope to attend the birthday
party on invitation of Troop
#323.
The Donegal Neighbor-
hood has 318 scouts regis-
tered, 71 adults and 18
troops functioning. Nancy
Kopf, Mount Joy, is Neigh-
borhood Co-ordinator. The
next Neighborhood meeting
will be held on March 17, at
8PM in St. Luke’s Episcopal
Church, Mount Joy.
