Valentine King and Queens crowned at Bethel AME A Valentine King and Queens were crowned in three age categories Satur- day night at the annual Valentine party sponsored by the Bethel AME Church, Fairview Avenue, Marietta. The Valentine Queen in the under-S age group was Allyson Hudgins. In the 6-12 age group, Sonya Duncan and Trevor Jenkins were Queen and King. Coralie Dorsey was queen of the 11-16 age group. The benefit was organized by Mrs. Jean Major and Nathan Hawkins. There was plenty of entertainment, including contests and prizes. Farm Women’s Society 8 hears E. Herr on “Poetry” Farm Women’s Society #8 met in the home of Kathryn Heisey, 107 Poplar Street, Mount Joy, February 16 at 2 pm. Nineteen members and two guests attended. Kath- ryn Heisey, the Society President, was in charge of the meeting. Mary Grace Martin led the ladies in singing the hymn “O Worship the King!’. The 23rd Psalm was repeated in unison for devotional time. Anna Mae Derr, Record- ing Secretary, read the minutes of the December meeting and roll call was taken. Members gave titles of favorite poems as they responded. The Auditor’s Report was read by Margar- et Heisey and was accepted as given. Hettie Ginder, the newly appointed Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s report. Vera Frey, on the Sunshine Committee, told of contact with members unable to attend the meetings. Suggestions for short trips were given by Margar- et Heisey for the Ways and Means Committee. Kathryn Erb, Vice President, was a delegate to the recent convention, and she gave a detailed report of activities Book Collection Drive The Book Collection Drive for the annual American Association of University Women will be held March 1 through April 30. Books and { other printed matter may be donated at local branch libraries, by placing them in the specially marked boxes. there. Several others accom- panied her to the conven- tion. ‘‘Poetry’’ was the Special Feature of the afternoon. It was presented by Edith Herr, a part-time nurse from Willow Street. Poetry has been a hobby of hers, and she created interest as she gave a reading. Some of the poems related to happen- ings in everyday life and others were expressions of serious times. Attractive refreshments with a seasonal touch were served and enjoyed by all. Hostesses were Kathryn Heisey, Kathryn Erb, Mary Reist and Lillian Ebv. The next meeting will be held at the Lutheran Church, May- town, on March 15 at 2 pm. Christine Erb, a return IFYE from Japan, will speak. The Srping Rally will be held May 1 in the Memorial Hall at the York Fair Grounds. — Pauline E.
