February 6, 1980 Sally Cahalan, Marietta, recently hosted a party celebrating the successful first season of the volunteer docent program at the Wheatland Center. Mrs. Cahalan is director of Wheatland. Katherine Western, who contributed 180 hours to the program, and Jim Croft who volunteered 179 hours, were honored at the party for contributing the most do- cent hours. The party was given to honor both the volunteer docents and the paid staff of Wheatland, President Bu- chanan’s restored 1828 mansion house. Wheatland’s volunteer Docent Program is open to all residents of Lancaster and York Counties. Volun- teers, both men and women, donate many important services to the historic house: they give tours of the mansion, lead craft work- Congratulations to Ron Mountain. February 2 marks the 10th anniversary of Ron’s employment with Warner Cable of Marietta. Ron is the chief technician for Warner Cable of Marietta. He was honored at a luncheon on February 5, 1980. In the first match, Chiques co-ed beat the East Hempfield team with 15 to 3 and 1S to 4 scores. The Chiques women won by a score of 15 to 5 and 15 Mount Joy’s Troop 39 to 8. The Chiques men de- feated East Hempfield 1S to 9 and 15S to S. Members of the Chiques all-stars are: Bobby Henry, Colleen Kaylor, Betty Smok- er, Lolly Baker, Sue Smith, Lynn Baker, Mike Lippold, Jim Obrockta, Mike Stein- baecher, Ed Kaylor, Glenn Peters, Fran Resch and Dave Noll. is first in skill contest Mount Joy Boy Scout Troop #39 won a first place award at the Western District Frozen Trail, Jan- uary 25 and 26. The boys competed in various skills against 21 other troops. Six boys and three leaders slept out in tents at camp Mack. Rufus Bleecher is the Scoutmaster for the troop. Will Groff is Assistant Scoutmaster and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster is Fred Straub Jr. The boys participating in the outing were Dave Nissley, Mike Groff, Don Painton III, Todd New- comer, Daune Koser and Bill Prout. The Golden Bears Patrol, headed by Don Painton Jr., were tested at various stations on the skills they had developed while in scouting. The boys in the Golden Bears Patrol are Dave Nissley (Patrol Lead- er), Mike Groff, Don Painton III, John Erb, Lester Dimler and Todd New- comer. The White Panthers Pa- trol attended ten different stations of skill. They are under the leadership of Roger Sanders, Assistant Scoutmaster and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster Fred Straub Jr. The boys are Mark Wagner (Patrol Leader), Shawn Kreiner (Assistant Patrol Leader), Bill Prout, Duane Koser, Dave Linton and Dave Klepper.
