On Wednesday, Jan- uary 30th, 1980, a fire broke out in the stack of our Franklin Wood Burning Stove. The first thing that came to mind was to call the Fire Co. Well, if you ever had a fire, you'll know what I mean when I say my mind drew a blank. Thank goodness my husband put the emergency sticker with the ‘911’ number on our telephone. The response on the phone was very efficient and within minutes the Fire letter of appreciation from my hus-| Co. was here, along with the Marietta Police. Both police officers and firemen han- dled everything very promptly and before long all the smoke was cleared and all was safe. They stayed until they were sure every- thing was safe. Sadly enough, it takes an experience such as ours to appreciate those men that volunteer their time and services to our community. Thank you again for your services and help. Also, we would like to thank our neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ebersole, for their help. It'was greatly appreci- ated. Gratefully, Mr. & Mrs. Jay R. Roberts M. J. Mathias (cont.) [continued from front page] here today. And he knows that my next move is his job,” she teases. ‘‘Why, whenever he leaves the office, I go over and sit in his chair. It feels good.” Mary Jane also has six women working under her at the different Warner of Marietta offices. Not only does the Marietta based station supply cable to the Marietta area, but it also services Roaring Springs, Reedsville and Newport. All of the decisions come out of Marietta, and when a problem arises, Marietta is called. ““‘Ron is on the road more and more, so I have to handle many of the ‘emer- gencies’ that come in. It can really throw your schedule off balance, but it sure keeps the day exciting!” Mary Jane lives with her husband, Carl Mathias, Jr., at 1020 Central Ave., Columbia. ‘‘My husband certainly knows how to handle pressure,’’ she says. “He is on the Columbia School Board. It is not an enviable position for the last couple of years.” The couple has three children: Barbara; the wife of Thomas Siefried; Mich- ael, married to the former Kim Aston; and Carl III, at home. They also have four grandchildren. ‘‘They really keep me busy during my off hours,’’ she says. Mary Jane also like to garden and swim over the summer. ‘‘I really have very few hobbies. I think I would have to consider my job a hobby. Even when 1 take work home to finish, I don’t mind at all. I rather enjoy it.” Mary Jane recently got a new office. It is here that her warm and outgoing person- ality really comes through. “People always comment on my office. Some even ask me if I had an interior decorator. I just laugh.” The office is done in warm and inviting browns and oranges. It is filled with wicker furniture and hang- ing plant baskets. “Perhaps my office is a little too inviting,’’ she says. When there is free time, everyone in the office seems to congregate back here. But I must admit, that is what I really like. Just talking to people that I really like. And that is what my job is. I really love it!” ization which gives dental care to children in the Donegal School District, and to the Mount Joy Public Library.
