Mount Joy J-Cs select R.D. Stoner for >79 Distinguished Service Award Robert D. Stoner, 25 North Barbara Street, Mount Joy, was the recipi- ent of the Mount Joy Jaycees Distinquished Serv- ice Award. Bill Martin, last year’s winner, present him with a plaque and an inscribed watch. Stoner, last year’s Mount Joy Jaycees president, is currently serving as Region 8 director of the Pennsyl- vania Jaycees. He is also a newly elected member of the Mount Joy Borough Council. Stoner has been involved with many projects through- out the past year, including: the Miss Donegal Area Pageant, the 75-plus ban- quet, the Community Prayer Breakfast, the Hugh O’- Brien Youth Leadership Award, the Memorial Day carnival and parade, Apple Butter Week, the Jaycees Road Rally, the bicycle rodeo and the flag project. Stoner participated in personal development and Leadership in Action pro- grams both locally and in Tulsa, Okla. In addition to his com- munity service he is also active at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Mount Joy. He serves as choir president and has served as chairman of the church’s worship and preaching com- mission. The 28-year-old Stoner is a 1969 graduate of Donegal High School. He received his Associate degree in architectural drafting from Triangle Institute of Tech- nology, Pittsburg in 1971 and is employed as the General Manager of Slaugh Homes, Mark I Construction of Lancaster. He is the Son of Harvey and Beatrice Stoner, 121 West Main Street, Mount Joy and is married to the former Cynthia Herman. The Stoners have two daughters, Stephanie, 35, and Nicole, 1. The Keynote speaker of the D.S.A. Banquet was Pennsylvania Auditor Gen- eral Al Benedict. Mayor James Gingrich served as master of ceremonies. Rob- ert Phillips, Pennsylvania Jaycees state president, and Jerry Andria, Pennsylvania Jaycees state secretary also spoke. Ban- quet. Dorothy Schock, last year recipient of the award, presented Mary with an engraved pewter plate in recognition of her contribu- tions to the community. Mary, a life-long Mount Joy resident, is a registered nurse and a certified emergency medical tech- nician employed by Dr. Miles Newman of Elizabeth- town. Mary has shared her expertise in nursing through her work with the Mount Joy Ambulance Association.
