Miss Long looked at the greeting, smiled and said ‘‘they come up with something new all the time, don’t they.” Lettie Long was 100 years old Tuesday, January 8; Rep. Brandt pays her a visit Letitia ‘‘Lettie’’ Long was 100 years old on January 8. However the event was really celebrated Friday, January 11, when State Representative Ken Brandt presented Lettie with birth- day greetings especially for persons having lived a century. Lettie was born and reared on New Haven Street, Mount Joy and worked as a bookkeeper for Lancaster Fireproof and Paint Company for S0 years. While employed in Lan- caster, she resided on Lime Street but upon retirement moved to Vine Street..She moved to Elizabethtown in 1954 with her friend and companion Esther Shaeffer. She has been a guest at Obituaries SAMUEL B. BAKER Samuel B. Baker, 88, of Mount Joy R2, died at the Lancaster General Hospital, where he had been a patient for five days. Mr. Baker’s wife, Agnes Lehman Baker, died on Oct. 11, 1975. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Samuel S. and Susanna Brandt Baker. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy, and a lifetime resident of the area. He retired from farming in 1966. Surviving are two daugh- ters: Dorothy B., wife of Clarence H. Lehman, Mount Joy; and Edith E., wife of Franklin B. Greiner Sr., Mount Joy R2; six grand- children and five great- grandchildren. EARL E. CARVER Earl E. Carver, 82, of § South New Haven Street, Marietta, died in the Whitehall Convalescent Center following an illness of eight months. Mr. Carver was a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the former Olmstead Air Force Base, Middletown in May 1959. He was a charter member and past commander of the William Brenner Post 466, American Legion, Marietta. He was also a member of the Local Chapter 301, N.A.R.F.E., the Ashara Lodge 398, F&AM, and the First United Methodist Church, all of Marietta. He was the husband of Lillian M. Buchanan Carver. The son of the Late Wilson and Fannie Marley Carver, he was born in Marietta and had been a lifelong resident of the town. He and his wife had celebrated their 60th wed- ding anniversary last Oct- ober 4. Surviving in addition to his wife are the following children: the Rev. Earl C. Carver, Langhorne; Leona J., wife of Paul H. Lenhard, Millersville; Alice C., wife of Bill T. Davis, Florence, S.C.; Joyce M., wife of Fred Loewen, Alomogordo, N.M.; L. Frances, wife of Robert W. Larson, Fairfax, Va.; and Sonja L., wife of Joe Bates, York. Also surviving are 17 grandchilren, 13 great- grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Chrystal Walk- er, Pottstown. LUTHER HOPE LEESE Luther Hope Leese, the" infant son of Mark, Ill and Pattie Shaub Leese, 11 East High Street, Maytown, died at birth at the Lancaster Lehman’s Nursing Home, Rheems, ‘since July 1978. Although confined to a wheel chair, Lettie enjoys the ‘‘programs’’ offered at Lehman’s. She attends Bible study hour, does limited reading and looks forward to visits from her two nephews from Eliza- bethtown, Rus and Walter Hein, Paul Hein, a nephew General Hospital. Surviving are paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark M. Leese Jr., York; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Shaub, Mount Joy; and a sister, Tara Lynn Leese, at home. ELSIE MAY SCHROLL Elsie May Brayman Schroll of 206 Glad St., Marion, Ohio, died on December 20, 1979, in Country Estates Nursing Center, Marion. She was 91 years old. The widow of Wilson H. Schroll, she was born in from Philadephia, and her niece Sue Bostian, from Joplin, Missouri. When presented with her congratulatory certificate by Representative Brandt last Friday, Lettie only smiled and said, ‘‘they come up with something new all the time, don’t they. I like this. It’s very nice.”’ Mount Joy and left the area in 1923. Surviving are six sons: Charles 1., Millersville; Wilson H., Paulden, Ariz; David, Phoenix, Ariz; George W., Plymouth, Ind.; Robert D., Ocala, Fla.; and Daniel, LaRue, Ohio; three daughters: Mrs. Anna Toombs, Mrs. Helen Sly and Mrs. Mary Blevins, all of Marion; a sister, Mrs. Florence Aukamp, Lan- caster; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Nine children preceeded Mrs. Schroll in death. Mount Joy Area Historical Society to meet next Jan. 21 William Neyer, collector of old tools, will be the guest speaker at the January meeting of the Mount Joy Area Historical Society on Monday, January 21st at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be held in the Borough Hall, Main Street, Mount Joy. Mr. Neyer will explain and describe the oddities of old tools—their origin and use. W. Bennell Heisey will preside at this initial meeting of 1980, which will also introduce the following fellow officers for the new year: Robert Peiffer, Vice President; Vera Gingrich, Secretary; O0.K. Snyder, Treasurer; Charles Mowrer, Historian; Robert Shank, Membership Chairman; Trustees, Marian Brubaker, Ralph Berrier, Carmella Koser, Kathryn Crider, Robert W.
