Every year, Willis Herr donates a Christmas tree to the
kids at Riverview Elementary School. And every year,
the kids make a lot of nice decorations for the tree. The

Festival of Lessons and Carols to be celebrated
December 23, St. Luke’s Episcopal,
On the fourth Sunday of
Advent, December 23, the
10:30 am service at St.
Luke's Episcopal Church,
Mount Joy, will be a
Festival of Lessons and
Carols. This service was
first used many years ago in
Turo Cathedral, England. It
consists of seven lessons
and seven carols. The
lessons trace the history of
salvation from the fall of
mankind in the Garden of
Eden to the birth of Jesus
and the significance of that
birth for all mankind.
On Christmas Eve, Dec-
ember 24, there will be two
services offered. At 7:30
pm, there will be a family
service with Eucharist. This
service is planned especially
for families with children.
Candles will be distributed
to everyone as they enter
the church for this service.
After communion, the Rect-

“An Old-Fashioned Christmas’ at Crossroads Brethren
Sunday morning, Decem-
ber 23 in the 10:30 worship
hour, ‘““An Old-Fashioned
Christmas’’ will be pre-
sented at the Cross Roads
Brethren in Christ Church.
The nostalgic musical is
filled with traditional songs
of the Season, and many
lovely new songs. It is
arranged and composed by
Don Wyrtzen.
_ Just imagine—no traffic
Jams, no frantic shoppers,
no after-Christmas returns.
Through the record of a
diary written by a 12 year
old girl, the audience is
transmitted back in time to
1883—to a very different
kind of Christmas. It was a
Christmas that focused on
the real meaning—the birth
of Jesus Christ. It was when
God, because of His love,-
became a man.
The musical will be
presented by the adult
choir, joined by voices from
Mt. Pleasant BIC, a
children’s choir, and is
directed by Lamar Dourte.
An orchestral accompani-
ment tape is used. Narration
is provided by Jim Zook,
host; John Wolgemuth,
grandfather; Pam Lefever,
Elizabeth; and Dwayne
Sollenberger, Timothy. The
soloists for the musical are
Dale Engle, Joyce Heisey,
Gene and Marcia Mellinger.
The choir will also present
the musical Saturday eve-
ning, December 22 at the
Bethel Springs BIC and
December 23, 9:00am. at
the Mt. Pleasant Church.
You are invited to share
this inspirational experience
Sunday morning.
‘HIS LAND”
Across a barren land,
scarred by centuries of war
and neglect, the spectres of
ancient Israel appear, hover
and fade away. Suddenly
there is movement of a
different sort, and slowly,
steadily, a startling trans-
formation begins to take
place.
Thus begins ‘‘His Land,”
the thrilling story of Israel
from ancient to modern
times. ‘His Land,” a
one-hour color feature
motion picture, takes you on
a journey through space,
time and current events.
You see graphically, the fact
that Israel today is a living
testimony to the words of
the prophets when they
proclaimed that Israel would
take her place among the
nations of the world.
In the company of Cliff
Barrows and Cliff Richard,
England’s popular star, who
sings a number of new
Ralph Carmichael songs,
some of which were actually
written on location, you
travel the vibrant streets
and lonely solitary paths of
this nation whose destiny is
daily discussed in the
counsels of governments all
over the world...the same
paths taken by Jesus and
the prophets: Galilee...the
wilderness...Jerusalem...
the Mount of Olives... min-
gle with the people of
modern Israel as they work,
play and build a nation.
Words of Scripture come,
to life as the two men reflect
upon the events that in
recent years have confirmed
much of the ancient
prophecies. You are witness
to the fact that out of death
and desolation is emerging a
new Land...a ‘‘Land of milk
and honey,”” where the
future climactic events of
history will take place.
‘His Land,’’ rich in color
and authentic sights and
sounds, with a popular
musical score composed and
arranged by Ralph Carmi-
hael has been called a
musical journey into the soul
of a nation, and will be
shown on December 30,
1979 at 7PM., at Cross
Roads Brethren in Christ
Church, S. Angle and
Donegal Springs Road,
Mount Joy, Pa.
‘‘His Land,” truly a feast
of color, sound and song. An
unforgettable experience!

that the light of Christ
shines in each of our hearts.

of birthday cake will be
given to each child in honor
of Our Lord’s birthday.
The late Christmas Eve
service will begin at 11:15
pm with a Carol Sing led by
the choir. Immediately fol-
lowing this at 11:30 pm will
be a Choral Eucharist and
Christmas message.
There will be one celebra-
tion of Holy Communion on
Christmas Day at 9:30 am.
This latter service is
planned for those who
prefer a smaller and quieter
