Spangler, owner of Spangler Appli- ance-Sound in Marietta | talked last week to the Susquehanna Times about’ the E advantages of gesting with merchants in small towns. With the low overhead that small town merchants pay compared to those in large expensive shopping malls, the prices charged by local merchants are reason- ably competitive, Spangler believes. But the most important reasons for dealing with local merchants are more personal. A customer knows and can trust a merchant in his hometown. When it comes to service the local merchant has a great advantage over his big city competitor. A local merchant who lives in the same town with his customers knows he must provide good service to his neighbors. He has to back up his products. Another reason for buying locally is that the customer can talk personally to the owner of the business. At the large urban stores a customer is lucky if he can talk to the manager of the store. As a local business itself, the Susquehanna Times is very interested in encourag- ing local peoole to deal with local businesses. a a» Tgot ~ MES FIFTEEN CENTS oh.
