Sue Binkle has been
appointed assistant hostess
of the Mount Joy Welcome
Wagon. She replaces Pat
Burton, who will be moving
to Delaware.
Mrs. Binkle was been
very active in the Welcome
Wagon for the past few
years. She will be trained for
her new position by both the
supervisor in Lebanon and
by Mrs. Cherie Dillow,
Welcome Wagon hostess.

Mr. John W.W. Loose,
advisor for the Donegal
High yearbook Emerald,
was awarded a certificate of
appreciation by principal
Donald Drenner for his
outstanding service during
National Yearbook Week.
Loose was cited for his
role as yearbook editor for
the last 17 years.
The ceremonies took
place in conjunction with the
first National Yearbook
Week.
Alice M, Musser, the
daughter of Leonard and
Jeanette Musser of 3- E.
High St., Maytown, was one
of the freshmen honored at a
convocation marking the
beginning of Messiah Col-
lege’s fall semester.
Alice, who graduated
from DHS recently, was
recognized for being vale-
dictorian here and for
placing in the top S% of her
graduating class.

George Loope, whose
wife, Bonny, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Bailey
of RDI Bainbridge, has
been promoted to senior
airman in the Air Force.
Loope is a missile warning
and space suveillance radar
repairman.

Marine Pvt. David White,
the son of Robert M. White
of 1096 Wood St., Mount
Joy, has completed recruit
training at Parris Island.
During the 10%2 weeks of
boot camp he learned
battlefield survival and
other topics.
Pvt. White is a 1979
graduate of Donegal High
School.
Jake Sherk, Donegal High
School graduate is listed on
the Juniata rostet
this year.

Marine Pvt. Leonard P.
Shank, son of Mary A.
Shank of Meadows Apart-
ment, Mount Joy, Pa., has
completed recruit training at
the Marine Corps Recruit
Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
A 1979 graduate of
Donegal High School, he
joined the Marine Corps in
June of 1979.

Meredith ‘‘Duffy’’ Lom-
bard, the daughter of Dr.
Robert Lombard of RD
Columbia near Marietta, is a
member of the volleyball
team at King’s College in
Wilkes-Barre. Duffy is a
sophomore marketing major
at King’s College.
Her team has a 2-2 record
so far.

Mr. Lester Hostetter,
Mount Joy, will be the guest
speaker at the Manheim
Garden Club Meeting on
Oct. 11, 7:30PM., at the
Community Building, 15 E.
High St., Manheim.
Mr. Hostetter’s topic will
be “How to grow a
Chrysanthemum.”’

Karen Greider was named
co-captain of the Muhlen-
berg College varsity field
hockey team. Karen has
been a halfback starter for
four years with the Mules,
Karen, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Greider of
Mount Joy, is a biology
major.
Jim Wert of Mount Joy
was on the front page of the
Susquehanna Times last
June when he left Mount
Joy on his bike, aiming to
travel to every state. His trip
was to be a protest against;
nuclear power. /
Well, he's still on the
road. He's covered 4,600
miles through 18 states,
talking to governors, the
press, and ordinary people
about nuclear energy.
An article about Jim
appeared in last Thursday's
Intelligencer Journal.
Jim is now heading south
for the winter. He will
probably be on the road for
the next 2 years.
Shawn Miller won the
Maytown bike-a-thon last
weekend. Shawn is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W.
Miller, 28 Vista Drive.
Second place went to Eric
Witmer, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce Witmer of
Marietta.
The bike-a-thon, which
raised $500 for the St.
Jude’s Children’s Research
organized by Mrs. Donald
Wert. Twelve riders partici-
pated and rode a total of 300
miles.
Shawn won a 10-speed
bike. Eric won a $25 savings
bond

Girl of Month
Deborah Ann Torres is
the October Girl
Month at Donegal High.
Deb is the daughter of
Geraldine S. Torres, 139 N.
Market Ave., Mount Joy,
and Joe D. Torres, S30 E.
Market St., Marietta.
Deb is much involved in
theater and singing. She
was a member of the
Lancaster County Youth
Chorale, the West Virginia
University Fine Arts Dance
Camp, the Elizabethtown
of the
Area Music Foudation,
PUFA, the St. Mark's
United Methodist Church
choir, and the cast of ‘‘l.cllo
Dolly.”’ She worked with the
Durham Summer Theater
Professional Repertory
Company last summer.
Deb is also Miss Donegal
Area.

White elephant sale
held by
Senior League
A white elephant auction
was the entertainment for
the October meeting of the
Marietta Senior League.
Ben Weaver was. the
auctioneer, and his wife,
Ester, was the. clerk.
Members of the League
contributed the items that
were auctioned.
Mr. Weaver also led the
group in a sing-along and
the salute to the flag.
Mrs. Mary Portner, pres-
ident, conducted the busi-
ness meeting. Secretary
Elise McCloskey announced
the bus trip to St. Michael's
Island on Oct. 10th would
leave from the Presbyterian
Church at 7:30 AM. This
trip includes a boat ride and
dinner.
The annual Christmas
banquet will be held at
Lacy’s Lounge on Dec. 12th
at 6:30 PM. Members are
urged to attend and to bring
an item for shut-ins. Items
should be marked as
suitable for either males or
females. No exchange be-
tween League members will
take place this year.

Scott Gerberich
Boy of Month
Scott Gerberich is the Boy
of the Month at DHS.
Scott is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Gerbérich, 229
School Lane, Mount Joy.
Scott is a member of the
Friendship Fire Co. and
Trinity Lutheran Church. He
has worked part-time for
two years at Howard
Johnson's, and has worked
summers as a desk clerk at
the Quality Inn/Sherwood
Knoll. He presently works
at Union National Bank.
Scott plans to study
business administration or
accounting at college.

to be held
at MSC
Attention all solar energy
enthusiasts! A statewide
meeting on solar power will
be held at Millersville State
College on Oct. 13th. in
conjunction with free tours
of ten local energy-efficient
or solar houses. The tours
are sponsored by the SVA.
Also on tour will be
PP&L’s hydroelectric plant
at Safe Harbor.
