Michael is scheduled to depart for recruit training at the Navy Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois on July 18, 1980. Michael will be a 1980 graduate of Lancaster Cath- olic High School. §§8 Regina Jaco | The Marietta-Maytown- East Donegal Bicentennial Executive Committe has voted to donate its remain- ing funds from the sale of the bicentennial items— approximately $100—to the Marietta Community House. §§§ Sgt. Michael Lentz, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lentz of RD1 Mount Joy, recently took part in ‘‘Con- stant Enforcer,”” a major exercise in Germany. About 30,000 American, Canadian, German, and Belgian soldiers took part. 2500 tracked vehicles were involved, and 300 heli- copters. The exercise took part in the scenic Marburg- Kassell area. Lentz is a military police- man with the 3rd Armored Division. §§§ Steve Sload Sload, Jaco, boy, girl of month in Room 50 Steve Sload and Regina Jaco have been named Boy and Girl of the Month for Room 50, Riverview School. Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Sload, 30 W. Walnut Street, Marietta. Regina is the daughter of Debra Jaco, 378 E. Front Street, Marietta. Columbia J-Cs to hold jaunt with 2 and 5 mile runs for young and old on Sunday, October 28 The Columbia Area Jay- cees will sponsor their second annual Jaycee Jaunt, Sunday, October 28, at 2PM. There will be a five mile run and a two mile fun run. The start and finish line will be Glatfelter Field. The entire route of the run is on a macadamized surface with no dirt roads. There will be five divi- sions for both men and women: 13 and under; 14 to 19; 20 to 29; 30 to 39; and 40 or over. Plaques will be awarded the top three winners in each class. Times will be furnished to the runners at each mile | mark and a water station | will be provided at 2.5] miles. Traffic control will also be provided throughout the route. A registration fee of $3.50 will be required. All entries that are postmarked by Saturday, October 20, will receive a tank top shirt. Any registrations after that date will be $4.50 and no shirt. Registrations can be made until 1:30PM, October 28th. Schedule for Race Day is: Registration begins, 12PM. and ends at 1:30PM. At 2 PM the two mile fun run begins; 2:05 the five mile run begins; 3:30PM the Awards Ceremony begins. Blaine Gutshall, 134 E. Market St., Mount Joy, celebrated their S0th wedding anniversary on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Robert Kettering, Elizabethtown. They were married on September 25th, 1929, by the Rev. George Kercher. The couple were the guests of honor at a surprise afternoon luncheon given by their daughters for thirty invited guests. They are the parents of. three daughters: Shirley L. Wealand, Mount Joy; Faye E., wife of J. Robert Kettering, Elizabethtown; and Betty J., wife of C. Ray Bixler, Mount Joy. Mount Joy B.P.W. goes back to school, sings nostalgic songs The Mount Joy BPW (Business and Professional Women club) held its first dinner meeting of the 1979/80 year at Hostetter’s on Monday, September 24. The Foundation Committee, chaired by Carol Lambert, presented a Back to School program that featured the singing of nostalgic songs from the ‘‘dear old golden rule days’’ and the completion of a self evaluation form about con- tinuing educational interests among women. Mr. John Eterline spoke about life-long learning through part-time studies. He defined the objectives of the adult education program offered by the Lancaster County Vo-Tech schools: 1. to train people in basic skills and knowledge of the job market; 2. to upgrade oneself for job advancement; 3. to broaden or improve one’s knowledge in associat- ed skills for better perform- ance on the job; 4. to satisfy one’s own seif development. Information about adult education classes can be obtained at the post office, high school, the Vo-Tech schools, the YMCA, and the guidance service. Julie Endslow of RDI Marietta was honored as Donegal High’s Girl of the Month. President Fry announced that the Candle Light Tour of Homes, sponsored an- nually by the Mount Joy BPW, has been postponed from this year until next year. Plans are underway for a November, 1980, tour. Delegates were elected to the Fall District Meeting to be held on Oct. 20 and 21 at the Holiday Inn in York. They are Lillian Fry, Ada Thompson, and Gail Hoover. Carol Lambert, Hazel Baker, and Mary Bookwalter will serve as alternates. National Business Wo- men’s Week will be observed from Oct. 21-27. David Bartles was certain that it was Mrs. Flanagan, the secretary. Lloyd Kennedy took another guess —" ‘Mr. Long?”’ (the _ custodian). This opened the door to a very informative discussion on who actually ‘‘owns’’ and finances our school, in fact all the schools in our district.
