What is Trooper Engle’s advice to girls considering police work as a career? “If you want to know exactly what you're going to be doing from one minute to the next, don’t go into police work. “I like variety. “You get to see a lot of bad situations. You see the way people live, and you'd like to do something about it, and you realize that nothing can be done. If you have a queasy stomach, don’t become a policewo- man. “Just be sure of what you want to do. If you think police work is like what you see on TV, better check into it further. On TV they never show you working on reports. “You should have a lot of common sense. A police- man’s downfall is a lack of common sense. “You have to make quick decisions. You do what you have to do. You don’t have too much time. You have to make the right decision. Sometimes a person's life is in your hands.” Does Trooper Engle like danger? She laughs. ‘‘Walk- ing across Route 30 is dangerous,’’ she says. Is she married? ‘‘Happily single,”’ she replies.
