On a ‘Sentimental Journey’’ with Bill Dayton’s band are: H. Morrell Shields of Columbia Avenue, Mount Joy, Donegal schools music instructor; Monte Cooper of Sixth Street, Columbia, a professional musician as well as the owner of Cooper’s Flooring; Phyllis Kraemer, a senior at E-town College where she is majoring in music; and Lancaster residents Ed Brabits and Merle Hilde- brandt, both members of Bob Troxel’s Band. Pennsylvanians were in- fluential in swing “music. The Dorsey brothers, Fred Waring, Les Brown and Glen Miller all came from the coal regions. Local musicians taking “‘a sentimental Wa o "z> Journey” across western U.S. ZA Bill Dayton’s band will tour Oregon, Illinois, Iowa, S. Dakota, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska and Indiana, playing such favorites as ‘‘Begin the Beguine,’’ “‘I’ll Never Smile Again,’’ and ‘‘Jumpin at the Woodside.”’ The regular members of the Bill Dayton band are from Maryland and south Pennsylvania. They appear regularly on radio. Donegal alumni football players in All-Star game, August 3 and cheerleaders to participate Graduated senior football players and cheerleaders from DHS will participate in the 18th annual Lancaster- Lebanon County All-Star Charity Football Game to be played Friday, August 3rd, at Lancaster Catholic High School stadium beginning at 8:15 PM. Sponsored by the Wheat- land Sertoma Club and sanctioned by the PIAA, the teams are composed of out- standing graduated seniors from 16 Lancaster County and 6 Lebanon County high schools. They will be divided into two teams: the East, ‘coached by Fred Poorman of ELCO; and the West, coached by John DeFrank of Lebanon Cath- olic. Donegal players will be on the West squad. Both squads will practice for two weeks. Proceeds will go for two scholarships for players in the game, and Susquehanna Valley Alliance to meet July 26 The Susghehanna Valley Alliance will meet on Thursday, July 26, at 7:30 PM at the Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Aven- ue, Lancaster. The meeting is open to the public. On August 6, a Hiroshima Day vigil will be held from 12 noon to 1 PM in downtown Lancaster on Penn Square and slides and films will be shown at the Lancaster Theological Sem- inary, College Avenue, at 7:30 PM. A tour, featuring solar installations in the southern part of Lancaster County, will be conducted on August 11.
