John Groff, a student at
Donegal High, won a silver
medal in the commercial
food trades division in the
VICA (Vocational Industrial
Clubs of America) state
conference at the Host Inn.
John attends the Mount Joy
Vo-Tech School.
About 1600 students from
across the state participated
in the VICA competetion’s
35 categories. Thirteen
medals were won by
Lancaster County Vo-Tech
students.

Charles E. Sanders, son of
Mr. and Mrs. William
Jankans, 441 Hazel Avenue,
Marietta, was one of 593
students who received a
bachelor’s degree at the
spring commencement of
Millersville State College on
May 19th.
His degree is in sociology.

Deb Torres has been
elected president of the
Donegal High School chorus
for next year. Mark Wagner
will be vice president,
Maxine Maxwell secretary-
treasurer, and Celeste
Mummau will be in charge
of publicity. Ben Snyder is
the new art work chairman.
David B. Sharpe, of 291
Rivermoor Drive, Marietta,
has received an Associate
Degree in computer science
from Penn State/York. He
received the degree with
high distinction.

elected president of the
Donegal High Dramatics

Kristen Straub may be
Miss Teenager
Kristen Straub of Mount
Joy will compete in the Miss
National Teenager contest
in Williamsport on June 1-3.
About 100 other girls will
compete for the 4-year
scholarship and Barbizon
modelling course.
Kristen will be judged on
the basis on an interview
with the judges, a short
speech on ‘‘What’s Right
With’ America,” and a
group dance routine. She’s
looking forward to the
competition.
Unlike most pageants, the
Miss Teenager contest does
not give its winner a blank

check for education: only
one college can be attended
to get the full scholarship.
Kristen, who has already
been accepted at Penn
State, told us she is
participating mostly ‘‘for
the experience.”” She is
planning a career in medi-
cine, though she isn’t sure
yet in just what job she
hopes to end up.
“l really like helping
people,” she says. Kristen
has been working at Her-
shey Medical Center under
the CEP program at Done-
gal.

precision aerobatics class,
Curt, a junior member, led
all senior members by 10
points after the first round.
By the last round he trailed
first place by nine points
(235-243) but the 2nd place
