Ny April 25, 1979 Union Meeting House Plans This drawing of the Union Meeting House as it will appear next fall was drawn by a member of deVitry, Gilbert and Bradley, architects for the project. The bell tower shown was not known to have existed: however, an eight-sided support for such a structure was found in the rafters when the old ceiling was removed, so the architects will include it in thé restoration. Mr. Martin lives at 272 West Front Street. His phone number is 426-3166. Blueprints of the final plan are soon to be submitted for approval to Marietta Borough, The Marietta Restoration Assoc- iates, the county Redevelop- ment Authority, HUD, and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. When the plans are approved by all those people, bids will be let for 30 days. Work should start in June, and, by the end of the summer the restoration should be complete. According to Mr. Martin, preparing the plans has been very time-consuming. Every detail of the proposed work—down to the last piece of molding—must be described and approved. The eventual use of the refurbished structure is still open to suggestions. Those involved hope that the town will find some use for it— perhaps as a youth center, library, or the like. The Meeting House is ‘a most impressive piece of architecture, and will be most complimentary to the town,’’ said Mr. Martin, who submitted the original proposal for the federal grant - that is making the restoration possible, along with Dave White and Ken Ross.
