These Beahm students won prizes for their 50’s
costumes last Friday at the junior high. Almost the
entire school, kids and teachers alike, dressed ‘‘grease”’
or ‘square’ for the event. The office played Beach
Boys music over the PA system, and the whole school
turned out for a basketball game. A dance was held that
night. The annual 50’s event is sponsored by the
student council. This year more people got dressed up
than ever before.
The winners are, top row [l-r]: Rich Zink, Best
Greaser; Shawn Maxwell, Best Dressed Guy; and Scott
Teacher Dave Halbleib tied with Walt Price for Best
Greaser. He is shown with some of his female students
who dressed 50’s style.
Young, Koolest Kat.
Seated are Dennise Hileman, Dungaree Doll; Michele
Roberts, Teen Angel; Lisa Shultz, Teen Angel [they
tied]; and Sherry Eisenhower, Best Dressed Girl.
Each winner got 2 free school lunches, 5 free ice
creams, and free admission to the dance, paid for by
the student council.
Beahm kids attended co-ed dance classes for a week
before 50’s Day to learn the Bunnyhop, the Stroll, the
Bop, the Jitterbug, and the Cha-Cha. The entire school
also had two periods of dance practice.
Another teacher, Jim Metzler, won the Best Square
award, but we didn’t get a picture of him before he
changed for a basketball game.
