It measures the sound transmission of various commercial ceiling tiles. Lisa is the daughter of Ben and Pat Hoffman of 528 West Main Street, Mount Joy. Lisa found that the best tile is Armstrong’s ‘‘fissured chandelier’ at 45% sound transmitted, and the worst was Armstrong’s ‘“‘plain white’’ at 78.5%. Other brands were tested also—Armstrong just happened to have the best and worst. Dean Bricker poses with his solar heater. Dean, the son of Amos and Janet Bricker of RD2 Mount Joy, got the idea from a magazine article. The device will boil water in 11 minutes on a sunny day. He calculated the best parabola to use, designed and built the electronic guidance system himself, and experimented with different heating tubes. The best kind: glass-covered.
