Alice Myers sews dresses
Mrs. Alice Myers, of
RD1 Mount Joy, sewed 175
dresses this winter, all size
fours.
Every winter Mrs. Alice
Myers of RD1 Mount Joy
sews 25 size four dresses
and gives them to the First
Methodist Church in Mari-
etta for their ingathering.
She has been doing this
since she retired as a
Donegal school teacher
seven years ago, which
means she has sewn 175
dresses alltogether. No two
have been made quite
alike.
Mrs. Myers started
teaching in a one-room
school near Conestoga,
later taught at Warwick
where she taught six
grades, and moved here to
teach in the former Florin
School. When that school
closed, she moved to the
Maytown School. She gets
occasional visits from her
former pupils. -
Mrs. Myers got her BA
degree from Millersville
State in 1955, after the
death of her husband, the
late Edwin H. Myers, and
one of her sons. She taught
before that, but without a
degree, which was not
required at that time.
Mrs. Myers, besides
teaching in the public
schools, has been a teacher
for her church for 30 years.
Previously she taught at
churches in Manor Town-
ship, Leola, and Mount
Joy.
Mrs. Myers is the
daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. John N. Herr.
She is a member of the
Mount Joy Senior Citizens
and the Retired Teachers
Association.
