Girlscouts
decorate library
Members of Junior
Girl Scout Troop #32,
Mount Joy, have been
arranging items relative to
Scouting in the Mount Joy
Library since September.
For Girl Scout Week,
March 12 thru 18, dolls
dressed in international girl
guide uniforms (on loan
from Penn Laurel Girl
Scout Council) have been
placed in the library.
The entire Donegal
Neighborhood of Scouts
was invited to prepare
posters, using the Girl
Scout theme ‘‘International
Year of the Child’ and
these too have been
included in the display.
Each poster has an original
poem, reflecting the theme,
accompanying the sketch.
Other troops in the
Donegal Neighborhood
have attended the church
of their choice for girl scout
Sunday and most troops
have been working with
their sister troops during
this annual observance.

Scott Riedle
Magic at Beahm
Scott Riedle is a thirteen-
year-old boy who likes to
perform magic, and that is
what he did for Beahm
Junior High School stu-
dents and faculty in an
assembly this past Friday
afternoon. Audience atten-
tion was gained immedi-
ately when Scott extin-
guished a flame in a pan
by placing a cover over it
and then removing the
cover to reveal a long-hair-
ed hamster.
A variety of card and
rope tricks delighted the
audience, who responded
with applause from time to
time. The students and
faculty were amused by a
chiffon. scarf that respond:
ed to Scott’s commands of
‘‘attention!’” and ‘‘at
ease!” while a floating
silver ball intrigued them.
Scott freed himself easily
and quickly after Amy
Westerman and Tim
Santiago had tied his hands
securely behind his back.
Mr. Ritrovato was asked to
cut uneven lengths of rope
evenly only to discover the
lengths would grow uneven
again.
For his last trick, Scott
placed himself in chains
around his neck, his arms,
and his legs. Matthew
Shaub checked the regula-
tion locks for security and
timed how long it took
Scott to free himself from
the chains. He did this in
less than three minutes.
Although Scott has had
some professional instruc-
tion in the art of perform-
ing magic, most of his

knowledge and skill have
been learned and develop-

the subject. The future will

charm and allure for Scott,
who wrote a play and per-
formed in it in elementary
school.
