...supervisors honor Lloyd Fuhrman
[continued from front page]
ment of our life style.
“‘Mr. Fuhrman, the East
Donegal Sewer Authority
salutes you for all the many
things you have done for us
and the community.’
Congressman Robert
Walker was unable to
attend, but he sent a letter,
saying in part:
“It is most seemly that
the Township Supervisors
should take this occasion to
pay tribute to you as a
Township Supervisor who
has served so ably and
unselfishly for a remark-
able twenty-one years. I am
sure this is some sort of a
record, coupled with the
previous years you served
as President of the Lancas-
ter County Board of Super-
visors. It is obvious that
your special expertise as a
Supervisor was recognized
by the citizens of East
Donegal long ago and
utilized to the fullest
extent. East Donegal Town-
ship residents are fortunate
indeed to have had the
benefit of such ‘know-how’
and devoted service.’’
Mr. Fuhrman was lived
in this township all his life.
He works as a farmer. He
is a former Supervisor of
Lancaster County.
Mr. Fuhrman is married
to the former Ellen M.
Myers. They have one
daughter, Barbara, the
wife of Barry Stoner. The
Fuhrmans have two grand-
children.

Poisonous snakes guard jewels
Snakes aren’t just nasty
little slimey things that bite
people. They are also very
beneficial to man.
First of all, snakes are
the farmer’s friend (and so
all of our’s) because they
eat lots of rodents, insects,
and other pests. Snakes are
part of the balance of
nature.
Secondly, the very snake
venoms that sometimes kill
people are being used by

Cobroxin, an enzyme taken
from cobra venom, is
turned into a powerful pain
killer for patients suffering
from arthritis, cancer and

Other venoms are used
to treat hemophilia and to
dissolve blood clots that
cause strokes and heart
attacks.
About 210 species of
snakes are venomous. The
others, numbering about
2,400 species, don’t pro-
duce poisonous and useful
secretions, but they some-
times find other uses. A
gas station owner in Virgin-
ia keeps a 6-foot boa
constrictor in his garage
after hours. He has never
been robbed.
At a jewel exhibit in
Sweden, a case containing
$429,000 worth of gems
also contained three of the
world’s most poisonous
snakes. Burglar alarms
weren't needed.
