They adopted a budget of 219,214 ($23,061 over last vear’s) while keeping the millage at 19. The increase in expendi- tures (11.8%) stems from inflation and rising insur- ance premiums. The bigger workmen’s compensation payments, up $2000 this year, also had something to do with it. The 1979 budget totals $221,384, down from $382,816 this last year. The much higher budget last year paid for the new municipal building. One of the more significant changes in the ordinance establishes Route 230 (Main Street) as a snow emergency route. Starting January 1, 1979, when the Borough feels that a serious winter weather condition exists, a special set of traffic regula- tions will take effect on Route 230. The regulations you should take special note of are: a. Snow tires or chains must be used on all vehicles; b. No parking will be permitted on Main Street until the emergency has been lifted; ¢. Vehicles that are per- mitted to become stalled or are parked in such a manner that hinders snow removal efforts or that obstruct the flow of traffic, will be towed away at the owner’s expense or the owner will be prosecuted. The public will be noti- fied at the beginning and the end of the winter weather emergency through the use of radio, television or posted notices on Route 230. The scoreboard tells the story, and so does Keith Perun’s expansive victory sign. Donegal beat Garden Spot, their toughest rivals for the section 3 basketball crown, 46-44 in the first league game last Friday. The girls’ team and the wrestlers also look like champions this winter [see stories on back page]. for 21 years’ service Long-time East Donegal Supervisor Lloyd Fuhrman was honored last week for his 21 years of service to the community. The dinner in his honor, held at Hostetter’s, was a surprise for Mr. Fuhrman: it was slated to be a dinner simply for the purpose of the Supervisors getting together with the members of the various authorities, but Lloyd Fuhrman was handed a plaque during the night. Dr. Brown spoke for the Planning Commission, Keith Vogt for the Zoning Hearing Board. Represent- ative Ken Brandt also gave a talk for the occasion. On behalf of the sewer authority, Lewis Sperla said this: “l want to say it is indeed an honor and privilege to take part in honoring Lloyd Fuhrman. Too often his kind of dedication, honesty and work goes unrecognized and unrewarded. Mr. Fuhrman has on many occasions put the welfare of Supervisors Harold Drager, Lloyd Fuhrman, and John Henry Brubaker [l-r] pose with the township ahead of his own family, his own health and his own personal work. It is this kind of dedication we have witnessed these past twenty years. Through his untiring efforts, we as citizens of East Donegal have reaped the benefits. “During his terms as Supervisor, we have seen many changes for the betterment of our town- ship. To name them all would take entirely too much time. As citizens of East Donegal all you have to do is just look around and more likely than not you will see those improve- ments. Sewers, first class road equipment, a new municipal building which we can all be proud of. Yes, Lloyd has helped accomplish all these things without increasing our taxes. That in itself is quite an accomplishment. “Yes citizens of East Donegal, we can thank the All-Mighty that we have such a man as Lloyd Fuhrman to be so dedicat- ed towards the improve- [continued on page 8]
