Their guest was the Lions District 14D governor, Lion Elvin Hess. Hess was accompani- ed by deputy district governor Charles Steinman and zone chairman Marvin Farm Women’s Farm Women’s Society #8 held their annual Christ- mas party at the home of Vera Frey, Marietta RD, on December 9th at 6:30 PM. Kathryn Heisey, the Society president, directed the program. Covered dishes of food were brought by members and delicious roast turkey Boyer, Jr. The governor must visit each of his area’s S58 Lions clubs during his year in office. Mount Joy Lions presi- dent Jim Roberts intro- duced Boyer, who an- nounced a Region I rally to be held on January 9th, at 7:00 PM, at Elizabethtown College. Tickets will cost $6.25, he said. He then introduced Mr. Steinman, who told the group of another event— the District 14D Rally to be held at Dutch Town and Country Restaurant on the Lincoln Highway East, Lan- caster, on Saturday, March 24th. Governor Hess was pre- sented by Steinman. He said the same of the international convention in Montreal on June 20-23. Lion Ken Roth, chairman of the recent sale, said that there are many brooms and light bulbs left over now that the sale is finished. Reverend Victor Baer, minister of the Donegal Presbyterian Church, gave a brief pre-Christmas mes- sage during devotional time. Christmas carols were sung, led by Mrs. Baer. Good wishes were exchang- ed before each one re- turned. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Pauline Miller, 426 Done- gal Springs Road, Mount Joy, on January 20th, at 2:00 PM. Reports of the convention will be given and a musical package will be included. Devotions will be in charge of Mary Grace Martin. On Thursday, December 7th, the Ladies Guild of Zion’s UCC in Marietta held their annual Christmas party. The delectable meal was prepared by Reba Shuman, Theresa Runkle, Gladys Rettew, and Mary Dorber. A Christmas thought and prayer was offered by Eunice Rex. Everyone en- joyed singing carols and exchanging gifts. Honored for their out- standing contributions and for the time they gave working on the Holiday Bazaars were Reba Shuman, Gladys Rettew, and Helen McKain. For many years of devotion to the church through her music, Elsie Byers was given a check. The program for the evening consisted of an orientation meeting with all officers and committee Penyak installed as Legion Post 446 The William Brenner American Legion Post #446 of Marietta held its Decem- ber meeting Tuesday a week ago in The Legion Home at 17 So. Gay Street. Installation of officers and current business filled the agenda. Earl Rettew, commander of District 10, made the installations. He was assist- ed by deputy commander J. Robert Myers, adjutant Robert Diffenderfer, and chaplain Robert Forbes. The officers for 1979 are: chairpersons explaining their respective duties in ABWA. Vocational speaker for the evening was Carol Wenditz who is employed at Armstrong Ceiling Plant. Several craft items which were donated for the craft and bake sale were raffled off to members. Installation ceremonies were held for two new John Penyak, commander; Patrick Kenney, Jr., 1st vice commander; Russel Flowers, Jr., adjutant; Richard Smedley, service officer; and the Rev. Aristede Red, chaplain. Commander Penyak con- ducted the business session during which the group voted to build two new restrooms and decided to hold the next meeting on January 16th at 8:00 PM, again in the Legion Home.
