Trick or Treat Oct. 31

hanna Times made an error
in reporting the .hours for
trick or treating in the

actually it will be on
October 30th—as it will in
Marietta and the township.
Here again are the hours
for trick or treat and for
safe driving.
Watch those kids!

or treat safely.

The old Union Meeting House looks a bit forlorn
without its bell tower, but the church will soon be
restored to its original, tidy [though towerless] beauty,
thanks to a $103,000 federal grant.
As part of the restoration
cf the old Union Meeting
House on Waterford Aven-
ue, the Marietta Restora-
tion Associates began the
demolition of the bell tower
on the old building. The
tower is separating from
the main structure, and is
not part of the original
building.
The restorationists have
allocated $1500 for the
project, and the Redevelop-
ment Authority has given
$103,000. The structure will
be totally restored.
The original cost of the
building, in 1823, was
$1477.40. The meeting
house has always been
open to any sect or
denomination wishing to
use it, by its charter. By
the borough’s decree of
1818, the year construction
was begun, all protestant
Christians can be buried in
the yard.
Bricks recovered from
the bell tower will be saved
for rebuilding the south
wall, which is deteriorated.
Volunteers have been
digging around the house
on Saturdays, and have
turned up some old arti-
facts: buttons, china, and
So on.
The restorationists plan
to apply for more money at
some future date to com-
plete the restoration of the
Union Meeting House.

Maytown unveils
new ambulance
The October monthly
meeting of the Maytown
Ambulance Association was
recently held at the May-
town Fire Hall. Crew Chief
Jack Doutrich reported the
Association Ambulance re-
sponded to a total of 15
calls for the month of
September. The associa-
tion has recently purchased
a 1973 Dodge Maxi-Van,
which will be replacing the
Cadillac ambulance cur-
rently - in use by the
Association. The purchase
of the newer unit will
enable the Association and
it’s members to better
serve the Maytown com-
munity and the many
residents of East Donegal
Township.
The Ladies Auxiliary of
the Maytown Fire Co. have
donated a new Blood
Pressure Cuff for large
patients. Members of the
Association are very grate-
ful for this much needed
item for the ambulance.
Thanks also to the many
people who supported the
Flea Market and Chicken
Bar-B-Que recently held by
the Ambulance Association.
Plans are being made to
possibly enlarge for next
year’s planned flea market.
Tickets are still available
for the Association's $1,000
Give-A-Way. See any crew
member. Drawing will be
Saturday, November 4th at
the Maytown Fire Co.
Game Night.
Members have voted to
purchase a new radio and a
40 channel C.B. set for
better communications to
area hospitals and to other
emergency vehicles and
services.
Sheila Doutrich, Paul
Murhy, and Linda Thomas
have been accepted as new
members of the Maytown
Ambulance Association.
The next monthly meet-
ing of the Association will
be Thursday, November 9
at 7:00 PM. All members
are urged to attend for
nominations of officers for
1979. Elections will be
held at the December
meeting. Anyone wishing
to join the Maytown Am-
bulance Association should
contact any member or
plan to attend the meeting
on November 9th.
Bill Kanoff, Debbie Smeal, Linda Thomas, Larry
Warfel, Charles Shaffner, Robert Lively, Dan Ebersole,
Frank Splain, Sr., and Robert Smeal were not present

Restorationists honor Lenherts

Ken Ross, president of the Marietta Restoration
Asso-ciates, presents a plaque of appreciation to Miriam
and Henry Lenhert in the photo above. The event
occured last Thursday evening.
The Lenherts, curators of the Old Town Hall on
Waterford Avenue, received the plaque in recognition of
‘“their pioneering efforts to preserve Marietta’s Old
Town Hall for present and future generations.”
They restored the historic structure when it was
threatened with demolition some years ago. It now
houses many artifacts. The Lenherts, semi-retired from
their business of restoring classic wordwork, are also
superintendents of the Marietta Gravity Water Co.
