The ringmaster announces, ‘*‘And now, in the center ring, the star of the show - the lion!”” The audience awaits the entrance of a snarling, savage beast. What would happen if, instead, the lion came out reading a book and munch- ing on a banana, declaring that he no longer wanted to be a circus lion? This possibility is explored in the Columbia Little Thea- tre’s production of The Lion Who Wouldn't. This delightful children’s play by Gifford W. Wingate, with music by Allan Jay Friedman, will be present- ed to the public on Friday, November 3, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Columbia High School Auditorium. The role of the Lion, who daydreams throughout the play about taking up such jobs as baseball pitcher, teacher, detective, and actor, is being portrayed by Louise White. The Lion’s trainer, whom the Lion thinks of as his ‘‘attend- dant’’, will be played by Joe Lively. The children who help the Lion live out his daydreams include David Dietrich as Mark, Colleen Barr as Marilyn, William Weaver as Sam, Ilsa Powell as Sue, Scott Mackison as John, Chris- tine Haug as Jane, Scott Demmy as Bill, and Mary Loreto as Bess. Tammy White and John Elliot are acting as understudies. The play is under the direction of Mary Jane Demmy. Music is being directed by Jay Graver and Steve Weibley. Tickets will be available through cast members and at the door. Admission is $3.00 for adults, $2,00 for students and senior citizens, and $1.00 for children under 12 years of age.
