DID YOU HEAR?
After last week's story
about La Von Harnish’s
trumpet playing, the Sus-
quehanna Times has re-
ceived a petition with three
signatures (many more
signatures are forthcoming,
the Times was promised)
requesting that a contest
be held at half-time during
a DHS football game this
fall, in which La Von's
talents would pitted against
those of the well-known
Betty Groff of Groff’s Farm
Restaurant.
Both Mrs. Harnish and
Mrs. Groff have establish-
ed notable reputations for
themselves around Mount
Joy as trumpet players.
Heated arguments are tak-
ing place among the fans of
LaVon and Betty about who
is the better trumpet
tooter. The only way to
settle these arguments,
which are growing in
intensity and rancor, states
the petition, would be to
stage the aforementioned
contest, in which each
would successively play her
favorite selection, ‘‘Happy
Birthday to You.’’ The
winner would be selected
by crowd applause, to be
measured by accurate elec-
tronic equipment supplied
by Bob (formerly -Marietta
Mayor) Spangler of Spang-
ler Appliance, Marietta.

Stephen C. Landis, who
with his wife moved into
Hess Mar Manor last Dec.

located near Kraybill
School is continuing -to
grow. When the Landises
moved in there were only 7
homes completed; now
there are 13. Thirty homes
are planned for the area.
The Landises are making
many new friends in their
new neighborhood, a lot of
them people who moved
here from other parts of
the country.

Earl Miller will celebrate
his 86th birthday on Octo-

were for many years
associated together in Mil-

local roofers.
The business was found-
ed in 1892 by Earl and
John’s father and their
father’s brother. It is now
being carried on by Earl's
son Raver. Miller Brothers
is perhaps the oldest
going business to remain in
one family in Mount Joy.
If anyone knows of
another ongoing local busi-
ness which has been in the
same family for a long, or a
longer time, would that
person please send the
information to ‘Did You
Hear,’' Susquehanna
