....Mount Joy council
The new traffic ordinance
was not voted on because
changes were being incor-
porated, and Mr. Smith
objected to voting on an
ordinance without the final
draft, typed, in front of
him. Mr. Smith had earlier
in the meeting discovered
an error in wording that
would have allowed people
to park on snow removal
routes during the middle of
a blizzard.
Mr. Keller said that
*‘Citizens should feel free
to pick up a copy of the
new ordinance at the
borough office. We'd ra-
ther have any objections
voiced before it’s voted
’
Paul Stehman moved
that the borough’s house in
the park have its rent
raised from $100 a month
to $125 a month. Much
- discussion followed.
Some of the councilmen
felt that when the question
of continuing to rent to the
Graybills had come up
several years ago, an
implicit promise had been
made by council to keep
the rent at $100 for five
years. They felt that coun-
cil would be going back on
its word if it raised the
rent.
The rest of council felt
that $100 a month for an
entire house was ‘‘subsi-

another $25 a month would
still be very cheap.
The motion carried, with
Ammon Smith, Omar Groff
and Donald Zeller voting
against it. The vote was 5
to 3.
In other business, council
voted to:
—hire an architect, for up
to $550, to figure out the
best way to utilize space in
the borough office and the
Shatto property;
—awarded the oil bid to
Newcomer Oil Co.;
—applied for $20,000 in
matching funds for park
improvements;
—heard that the storm
drain near New Standard,
which had been clogged,
was cleared out and is
probably working now;
—agreed to spend $750 to
hire specialists to re-write
the police pension plan.
—approved the appoint-
ment of Russell Chapin as
representative to ACLG.
