Donald and Gloria
Staub, of 116 S. Market
St., Mount Joy, were
treated to a surprise party
in honor of their 25th
anniversay last week. Their
three children organized
the party on Sunday,
August 27. Thirty-four
people, including friends
from Penn State. showed
up for the occasion, and a
brother of Gloria's called
from California.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ray
Williams, 209 Mount Joy
Street, Mount Joy, cele-
brated their 22nd wedding
anniversary on August 14.
Mr. and Mrs. William
Zimmerman and their
daughters, Dawn and Kris-
ten, of 208 E. Donegal
Street, Mount Joy, just
returned from a vacation in
Virginia, where they visited
King’s Dominion, Monti-
cello, Virginia Beach, Luray
Caverns, and drove along
the Skyline Drive.
Charles and Mary Helm,
R.D. 2, Mount Joy, will
celebrate their 37th wed-
ding anniversary on August
30.
Abram H. Summy, of
Donegal Road, Mount Joy,
was taken completely by
surprise when 48 members
of the Church of God, as
well as a number of his
relatives, showed up at his
house last Sunday after-
noon to help him celebrate
his 60th birthday. More
would have shown up if it
had not been for the
torrential downpour of rain.
Mrs. Summy had planned
the drop-in party for
months.
Debra Becker, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert E. Becker, RD2
Mount Joy, will celebrate
her 18th birthday on Sep-
tember 6th. Mr. and Mrs.
Becker will celebrate their
19th wedding anniversary
on October 3rd.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Millard
Sherk, R.D.2, Mount Joy,
celebrated their 28th wed-
ding anniversary on August
19.
Henry M. Hess, R.D.1,
Mount Joy, will be 83 years
old on September 22.
A cow on the farm of
Mr. and Mrs. Harold M.
Shellenberger, R.D. 1,
Mount Joy, was discovered
about to give birth to a
two-headed calf two weeks
ago. Three veterinarians
including Mr. Shellenberg-
er’s brother, Dr. Donald
Shellenberger of Leola,
assisted in an operation on
the cow. The two-headed
calf did not survive, but the
cow is doing fine.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald R.
Ney, 218 Birchland Ave.,
Mount Joy, will celebrate
their wedding anniversary
on Sept. 3.
Charles R. Brown, RDI,
Mount Joy, ran in the
Elizabethtown Twilight
Trot, Sunday evening and
covered the 10,000 meters
(6.2 miles) in only 48
minutes. Brown runs 5
miles every day and has
been running for the past 2
and a half years. Mrs.
Brown just took up running
this summer, but is already
up to one mile per day.
Coast Guard seaman
apprentice James Prowell,
the son of Mr. and Mrs.
James E. Prowell of 158 S.
River Street, Maytown, is
on Alaskan fisheries patrol,
assigned to the cutter
Mellon.
During the 10-week
patrol, he and the other
men have boarded 77
Japanese, Soviet, and Kor-
ean fishing vessels. They
also participated in a
search and rescue opera-
tion north of Hawaii.
Jaycees thank
one & all for -
‘Radio Daze’
“THANKS”
The Mount Joy Jaycee’s
would like to thank every-
one who supported their
‘‘Radjo Daze’’ program on
Friday, August 25th.
This was the first year of
what the Jaycees hope will
be an annual, and long
-running, project.
The Jaycees would also
like to give a special thank
you to all the merchants
who helped sponsor the
‘““Radio Daze’’ project, and
to WPDC radio station for
their cooperation.

Mount Joy Chorus tunes up
The Mount Joy Comm-
unity Chorus will get into
full swing for the 1978-79
season with its first fall
rehearsal on Tuesday, Sep-
tember S at 7:30 PM in the
Fellowship Hall of Trinity
Lutheran Church, West
Main Street, Mount Joy.
The chorus rehearses the
1st and 3rd Tuesdays of
every month at 7:30 PM at
Trinity Lutheran Church,
Mount Joy.
The members of the
chorus, under the direction
of Miss Dorothy E. Schock,
extend an invitation to
anyone in the Mount Joy
area and neighboring
towns, seventeen and over,
interested in music and
who enjoys singing, to join
the group.
During October the
group will present select-
ions for several organiza-
tions including Luther A-
cres, Lititz. On Wednes-
day, November 22, 7:30
PM, the chorus will sing at
the Mount Joy Community
Thanksgiving service to be
held at Glossbrenner Uni-
ted Methodist Church,
Mount Joy. The chorus will
present two Christmas con-
certs - Sunday, December
10, 7:30 PM, in the
Hempfield Church of the
Brethren, East Petersburg
and Sunday, December 17,
3 PM, in the Trinity
Lutheran Church, Mount
Joy.
Officers of the chorus
are: Joon F. Way, Jr,
President; Mrs. Jane Dren-
ner, Secretary; Miss Alice
Keller, Treasurer; Miss
Sandy Heisey and Mrs.
Dorothy Heilig, Librarians;
Miss Verna Brandt, Tele-
phone Squad Chairperson;
Loren Rahe, Properties
Chairperson and Mrs. Dor-
othy Heilig, Public Rela-
tions.

The Marietta Restoration
Associates invite you to
join them in an archeologi-
cal dig at the Union
Meeting House. Area resi-
dents and the Associates
will be sifting the grounds
for old artifacts on Satur-
days, starting on Septem-
ber 9th at an early 8:00
AM.
Objects that are found
around the site will be
helpful in determining the
original appearance of the
structure. (The Associates
are getting $103,000 to
restore the house to its
original appearance.)
