IRENE PEEL
Mr. and Mrs. Marlin
McMillen, of 100 Longe-
necker Avenue, Marieita,
have received word of the
death of Irene Peel, a close
friend and frequent visitor
to Marietta.
Mrs. Peel was the wife
of Arthur Peel, Welland,
Ontario, Canada. She died
in Welland County General
Hospital on August Sth,
after a 6-month illness. She
was in her S6th year.
A native of Goldarne,
Lancashire, England, she
moved to Canada in 1951.
She lived in St. Mary’s for
7 years, and was a resident
of Welland since 1958.
Surviving her, besides
her husband Arthur, are
four daughters: Della, Eliz-
abeth, Christine, and June,
and one grandchild.
LYDIA C. WITMER
Lydia Clark Witmer, 92,
formerly of Mount Joy,
died at the Quincy United
Methodist Home in Quincy,
PA. She had been a guest
there for five and a half
years.
She was born in East
Donegal Township, a
daughter of the late Henry
E. and Barbara Clark
Witmer. She lived most of
her life in the Mount Joy
area.
She was a member of St.
Mark’s United Methodist
Church in Mount Joy, and
a member of the church
Women’s Missionary
Society.
Surviving are a brother,
Harry C. Witmer, Schaum-
burg, Ill, and a sister,
Minnie C. Witmer, Duarte,
California.
JOSEPH HUNTZINGER
Joseph W. Huntzinger,
81, of 8 East High Street,
Maytown, died last week at
the Veteran’s Administra-
tion Hospital in Lebanon
following a long illness. He
was the husband of Susan
V. Homsher Huntzinger.
He was born in Tremont,
the son of the late George
M. and Edith E. Wolcott
Huntzinger. A Maytown
area resident for most of
his life, he worked as a
postal clerk for 30 years at
the Lancaster Post Office.
He worked for Western
Electric for a short while
August 16, 1978
before that.
He attended Maytown
High School until 1915, but
graduated from Altoona
High School in 1917. He
joined the Marine Corps
and served in France and
Germany during World
War 1. He graduated from
Fort Bliss electrical school
in 1922.
He was a member of the
Maytown Reformed Church
and these organizations:
Ashara Lodge 398, Free
and Accepted Masons; Lan-
caster Lodge of Perfection;
Harrisburg Consistory;
Zembo Temple; American
Legion Post 809, Marietta;
the Maytown Fire Co.; and
the Maytown Golden Age
Club.
Surviving, in addition to
his wife, are: two daugh-
ters; Jean H., wife of
H. Carlton Wesley, Jr.,
Lancaster; and Mary C.,
wife of Leo F. McMaster,
Gettysburg; one son,
Robert H., Hershey; four
grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
MRS. PAUL E. SMITH
Rosetta L. Smith, 71, of
376 E. Front Street, Mari-
etta, died Wednesday at
Columbia Hospital after an
illness of a year.
She was the widow of
Paul E. Smith, who died in
1969.
Born in Lancaster, she
was a daughter of the late
Abraham and Nettie Linard
Beats. She was baptized in
the Christian faith. A
member of the Marietta
Senior Citizens
tion, she was a retired
employee of the Sylvania
Shoe Company in Marietta.
Surviving are five daugh-
ters: Vernetta, wife of
David Irwin, Peach Bottom;
Pauline, wife of Ivan Klein-
eman, York; Delores, wife
of John Cramer, Lancaster;
Patricia, wife of Jack
Kessler, Lewisburg; and
Sharon, wife of Donald
Sauder, Mariet*a.
Also surviving are a son,
Robert Smith of Marietta; a
sister Irene Stotz, Marietta;
a sister Bertha, wife of
Sterling Snyder, Lititz; a
brother Amos Beats, Lan-
caster; a brother Abraham
Beats, Newtown, Berks
County; 17 grandchildren;
and 15 great-grandchildren.
