State praises PP&L
for efforts to hire
handicapped
The State Bureau of
Vocational Rehabilitation
today recognized Pennsyl-
vania Power & Light
Company Board Chairman,
Jack K. Busby and Charles
B. Sauder, PP&L Employ-
ment Supervisor, for their
outstanding records in
hiring the handicapped and
providing for them in the
workplace.
According to a PP&L
spokesman, the company
has employed 19 handicap-
ped individuals since 1975,
including persons who are
deaf and speechless, part-
ially-sighted, arthritic, di-
abetic, epileptic, have a
heart condition or are polio
victims.
PP&L began taking steps
to facilitate employment of
the handicapped in 1975
when it altered facilities to
accommodate handicapped
persons. This involved
installing electrically oper-
ated doors in and out of the
general office building in
Allentown, changing some
restrooms and lowering
some water fountains. The
company also made accom-
modations at its Lehigh
Division Service Center at
Route 309 and Tilghman
Street to make the building
completely accessible to the
handicapped.
""PP&L has not only
worked closely with the
bureau on employment of
the handicapped,”’ Hagan
points out, ‘‘but has also
made the minor, but
essential, adjustments
within certain jobs to help
the handicapped without
changing employment
standards.”

value represents the relative electrical efficiency of air con-

costs, even though the initial investment may be slightly more.
