“I think a person needs to
strive to do better. You
can’t sit back and be
complacent simply because
you have a job you enjoy.
You’ve got to move
ahead.”’
When he graduates from
OTS, Richard will be
commissioned a 2nd lieu-
tenant. As such, he will
have a chance to use the
training he got at Albright
College in biology, chem-
istry, and math, to a larger
extent than he has up till
now. If he gets back into
BASH, he will continue his
bird studies, but in a more
responsible position.
Smedley was chosen
‘Airman of the Quarter”
for part of 1977, and was
the honor graduate in basic
training. Off-duty, he is a
member of the base soccer
and softball teams, likes to
golf, and plays tennis. He
enjoys crossword puzzles.
He is married and has
one daughter.
His wife, Carol, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
