Restorationists
meet
As part of their regular
meeting, the Marietta Res-
toration Associates will
have the opportunity to see
a unique combination of
restoration and apartment
living. The Riverhills Asso-
ciates, comprised of David
White, Harold Kulman,
Tom Smithgall, and Donald
White, will show the group
how they gave their fire
damaged town house, circa
1840, a new lease on life
while preserving the ori-
ginal exterior facade.
The group will see the
step-by-step changes which
have been recorded on
slides after which they will
meet at 107 W. Market
Street, the site of the
apartments, for a guided
tour.
Members and others
interested are encouraged
to be present at the Mari-
etta Community House,
264 W. Market, on Thurs-
day, April 20th, at 7:30
PM.

of flood waters into the
house, and all walls below
the hundred year flood line
would have to be water-
proof. This can be done, it
seems, but is most likely
rather expensive.
As to Marietta’s ex-
pected Historic District
status, it guarantees that
houses in the district could
not be forced to be torn
down, even if Marietta
Borough passed such an
ordinance. As for retro-
active ‘‘floodproofing,’” it
would probably apply to
new structures (as we
understand it at this point
in our investigation), but
not to any standing
structure.
The Historic Districts will
include all of Front Street
and much of Market Street.
Houses lining East Market
are not in the District.
The Times hopes to keep
its readers informed as this
matter is investigated.
