Kline NL Bm. ‘The Championship game April 5, 1978 Celtics capture title by Jim Metzler Even though the Donegal School District Grade School Basketball Tourna- ment was held on the evening of April Fool’s Day, the Celtics did no fooling around as they cap- tured the tournament title by defeating a strong Sixers team 57-38. The score was 25-19 at half- time. However, in the second half the Celtics controlled the boards which enabled them to earn the victory. In order to gain a berth in the championship game, the Celtics squeezed by the Trailblazers 38-34. The Trailblazers made a valiaht effort to come back in the ball game, as they were down by as much as 18 points in the third quarter. The Sixers defeated the Nuggets in their first game 36-24 for the right to play the Celtics in the finale. The Intramural basket- ball program is offered to children of the district in grades four, five, and six. It began the first week of December and stressed the fundamentals for seven Sports weeks. Then the players were given an opportunity to apply theses skills in a game situation, Four teams were chosen and each team played a nine-game sched- ule.
