His son, also a Doug, wears Spock look-alike costume that won a prize at the Star Trek convention in Philly. His eyes glanced onee to her, so swiftly only she caught it. Kane’s attention was fully locked on him. “You are a fool, Kane,” he snarled. “You will die for this—and slowly.” “It is you, Captain, who will die in shame.” The S’fali laughed. Kane’s attention went to her for one half-second. In that heartbeat, Kosar drew and fired his weapon, swung it to the second and third man before they could react. One man could have shot the Captain in that blurring spin, but he was abruptly without half a hand. Before his scream erupted, the other two were writhing on the floor. The S’fali straightened, hands open. ‘‘More coming in?” Kosar held his gun loosely. ‘‘The rest will have seen this transmission and gained circumspection from it. | am captain.’’ -from “‘Ice Claim”’ by Bonnie Reitz, in Antithesis Fanzine The above is excerpted from the first issue of a new magazine which is edited, illustrated, and largely written by two Marietta women: Pat Spath [continued on back page] The $3 million Commun- ity Development Funding pie hasn’t been cut yet, but 47 county projects have been ‘‘tentatively’’ selected from the 119 original requests for money. If all the tentatively approved projects are finally approv- ed, the county will get $3,063,624; the original requests summed to more than $21 million. These preliminary ap- provals were selected by the 70 people who sat on the county Advisory Com- mittees. The next step in the selection process is a series of five public meetings, at which citizens may com- ment on the selection of projects. This is not a formality: if you have sug- gestions for changing the below-listed funding, go to the local meeting, tonight, March 8th, at Beahm Junior High. The meeting starts at 7:00 in the cafeteria. The county Redevelop- ment Authority will formal- ly approve the selection later this month. After more deliberation or paper- shuffling in Washington, the funds will arrive—most likely in the fall. Below is a list of projects of local interest. Keep your car’s ‘tank , full. 3. stockpile supplies—radio (battery operated), 1st aid gear, food, can opener, light source, water, blan- kets, water purification tablets, toilet facilities. 4. Flood-proof your build- ing by installing check valves in sewer traps, sealing wall and floor cracks with hydraulic ce- ment, screen low windows to prevent breakage by floating objects, and get ready to protect moveable appliances. Put your refri- gerator, etc., on blocks. Fire Hazard— fires are actually more of a threat during a flood.
