The 21st Mount Joy

Sadie Brooks got the
Woman of the Year Award.
The ceremonies were
opened last Saturday night
by Jaycee president Jim
Wetzel. Jaycee Rick Ross-
man offered the invocation.
After dinner, president
Wetzel introduced Warren
Foley, who served as
Master of Ceremonies. A
past DSA award winner,
Foley introduced the ten
other men who have
received that honor from
the Jaycees over the years.
Foley also introduced
Miss Mount Joy Joi
Shearer, who sang Little
Flowers for the group.
(Miss Shearer made it to
the DSA banquet after all .)
President Wetzel then

Sim Horton got his

youth, and community
involvement.
President Wetzel noted
that William Reuter had
received his award not only

helped at the annual

Blazing mortgage
Here's an act of arson that the Pioneer Fire Company
applauded — burning the mortgage on the new fire halk
Harold McKain, Mrs. McKain, Rev. John Hiestand and
Ken Geesey participated in the mortgage-burning
ceremony. In spite of our photographer’s inept fumbling
with his flash unit, which forced the firefighters to hold up
the blazing mortgage for an uncomfortably long time,
nobody burnt his fingers. When the mortgage had curled
into a black ash, the assembled fire company members
dug into a big feast.
The first baby this year in Mount Joy
Here is the first baby born this year in 1978! He’s Gary
English, and he weighed 7 Ibs. 12 oz. when he was born at
8:44 AM in Lancaster General Hospital.
Holding Gary are his parents, Gary and Lenore. They live
at Box 516, Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy. The bigger
Gary works at AMP, moved here last October from Tower
City. The little Gary is his and Lenore’s first child.
Standing in the background are, left, Cherie Dillow, and
right, Mrs. Pat Burton, both of the Mount Joy Welcome
Wagon. The Welcome Wagon visits anyone who has
recently had a baby, moved to the area, or become
engaged. If you fall into any of those categories, you can
call Cherie at 653-1609 or Pat at 653-1963.
Another child, Joshua Owen, was born on the 4th to
Graydon and Terri Owen at 6:50 PM. The Owens were
visiting Mount Joy from their home in Burlington, Mass.
