the Rev. Victor Baer
The Rev. Victor . Baer,
D.D., has been elected to
fill the pulpit of Donegal
Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Baer, a native of
Lancaster County, is now
the Associate Minister of
Brick Presbyterian Church
in New York City. He will
begin at Donegal on
February 1st. The Presby-
tery will hold a reception
on January 17th. Installa-
tion is slated for February
26th.
Dr. Baer was unani-
mously elected to the
Donegal Church pulpit at a
special congregational
meeting last Sunday (Jan.
8). The Donegal pulpit has
been filled by the Rev.
Norman Dunsmore, Mount
Joy.
Born in Landisville, Dr.
Baer graduated from John
B. Stetson University in
Florida with an A.B.degree,
from Princeton and Union
Theological Seminaries.
His student pastorate
was in Calvary Presbyter-
ian Church, York. He was
ordained in Cincinnati,
Ohio, and served four years
as Assistant Pastor of
Kennedy Heights Church
there. He was called as
Assistant Pastor of Madi-
son Avenue Church in New

Co-Pastor in 1953, and
remained there until called
as Pastor of First Church at
Ossining, N.Y., in 1959. He
became Assistant Pastor of
Brick Church on Park
Avenue in New York in
1971, and has served. as
Associate Pastor since
1974. He has been listed in
“Who’s Who in the East’
since 1966.
Dr. Baer’s pastoral ex-
perience has included or-
ganizing a new congrega-
tion, with 12 members, in
Cincinnati. (It is still going
strong). He and his wife,
Molly, paid their own
expenses as volunteers for
the Board of Missions
during two 6-week periods
in the mountains of Eastern
Kentucky (at the Canada
and McVey churches near
Pikeville) and Eastern
Colorado (at the Crook and
Sedgwick churches near
Sterling). He served for a
year just after World War
Il in London, organizing
youth clubs in the slums,
and surveying bombed-out
areas for the Presbytery of
London to determine where
churches should be rebuilt.
He also studied at King’s
College, University of Lon-
don. His service in mission
outreach resulted in the
awarding of an honorary
Doctor of Divinity degree
by Pikeville College, Pike-
ville, Kentucky, in 1962,
and is a member of the
college board of trustees.
He was invited to join Chi
Alpha (honorary ministerial
fraternity in 1971. Across
the years he has followed a
systematic program of
continuing education, in-
cluding seminars in Finland
and the Iona Community in
Scotland. He is a Rotarian
and has been active in
community activities. Dr.
Baer served as Moderator
of Hudson River Presbytery

His wife, Mary Louise
(Molly) Koch Baer, was
born in Washington, D.C.
and lived for some years in
the Pottsville and Philadel-
phia areas. She graduated"
from Vassar College in
1945 with a B.A. degree,
majoring in child study. A
kindergarten teacher for
eight years in Bryn Mawr,
she became director of the
Madison Avenue Presby-
terian Church Day School
in 1954, serving two years.
Her volunteer work has
included serving as presi-
dent and member of the
board of directors of
Ossining (N.Y.) Children’s
Center, member of the
Junior League of West-
chester-on-Hudson, mem-
ber of the Community
Action Board of Ossining,
Ossining Historical Society
board, and Vice President
of Ossining Women’s Club.
At the Ossining church she
sang in the choir, taught in
the Sunday School, and
helped develop a church
library. She was on the
nominating committee of
the Hudson River Presby-
tery, and served as
religious education consul-
tant for Presbytery and
Presbyterial. The Baers
have no children.
In New York City, Molly
has been a board member
of James Lenox House, a
senior residence in Man-
hattan; House of the Holy
Comforter, a nursing home
in the Bronx; and Interfaith
Neighbors, a teen-age
center in Manhattan. She
has been vice president of
the Vassar Club of New
York. At Brick Church, she
has served on the Sunday
School committee and the
Library committee, and as
a substitute teacher in the
Brick Church Day School.
