Assumption BYM
Church is declared unsafe —
congregation will worship in Marietta
Mount Joy’s Assumption
of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Catholic Church has been
declared unsafe, and the
church has been closed.
An engineer from the A.
W. Lookup Co. in Philadel-
phia inspected the struc-
ture the other week and
declared the roof ready to
blow off in a high wind or
collapse beneath a heavy
Snow.
The congregation will
celebrate masses at Presen-
tation B.V.M. Church in
Marietta until a new Mount
Joy Catholic Church is
completed next summer.
Masses will be held in
Marietta for Mount
Leisure Club meets
by Joe Shaeffer
The Mount Joy Leisure
Club held their annual
Christmas party recently at
Hostetter’s with 161 mem-
bers and guests present.
Rev. Ezra Ranck gave the
invocation followed by the
dinner. Following the din-
ner a very delightful pro-
gram was presented by the
Rhythm Singers from Don-
egal High School under the
direction of Mrs. Lau. The
theme was Christmas with
a variety of Christmas
songs and at the close of
the program they received
a standing ovation.
President Shaeffer an-
nounced there would be no
formal business meeting.
The birthday and anniver-
sary song was sung for
those celebrating a birth-
day of anniversary in
December.
President Shaeffer then
asked the chairman of the
nominating committee to
officiate and give their
report. Chairman Eby re-
ported the following nomin-
ations: President, Joe
Shaeffer; 1st Vice-president
Marlin Kaylor; 2nd Vice
-president Eva Groff; Sec-
retary Teresa Heisey; As-
sistant Secretary Nedra
Brandt; Treasurer Almeda
Hostetter; Assistant Trea-
surer John Brown; Record-
ing Secretary Romain Good
and Assistant Recording
Secretary Clinton Eby.
Chairman Eby opened
nominations from the floor
but a motion that carried
closed the nominations and
the above officers were
elected for 1978. The
nominating committee was
Chairman Charles Eby,
Nora Eby, Fern LeVan,
Frank LeVan, and John
Brown. At the January
meeting the above officers
will be inducted by Arthur
Braun.
President Shaeffer an-
nounced there would be a
meeting of the new officers
and the program and food
committee at his home on
Thursday January S and
would begin at 1:00 PM, to
formulate plans for the
coming year. Bertha Fore-
man took charge and
eighteen fruit center pieces
and two poinsettias were
given as prizes to the
members and guests.

demolished and the land it
stands on sold. Efforts
have been made to
maintain the church since
1968, bt without success.
President Shaeffer an-
nounced the next meeting
would be at Hostetter’s on
Monday January 9 begin-
ning at 1:00 PM. Hostesses
for the meeting were
announced and the pro-
gram for the day will be
bingo. President Shaeffer
also announced dues for
1978 are now due and
asked that if possible the
members pay for the year,
helping to eliminate some
of the bookkeeping.
President Shaeffer
thanked the ladies for the
decorations and the meet-
ing closed with the singing
of Christmas carols, accom-
panied by Mildred Way at
the organ. The Christmas
story from the Book of
Luke was read by Marlin
Kaylor and President
Shaeffer read a poem
wishing all the members
and guests a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy
New Year.

mas party were Grace
