September 11, trash fire at The Meadows. September 18, electrical malfunction in base board heater causing small fire at 207 Mount Joy St. September 24, auto- matic alarm malfunction, Lancaster Leaf Warehouse. September 26, smoke scare at 35 West Donegal St. September 30, car fire Mock battle PFC Randy Peters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Peters of 213 E. Main St., Mount Joy, recently par- ticipated in a 4-day mock ‘‘battle’’ at Fort Hood, Texas. The battle was” fought on a map with troops and weapons represented by pins. The purpose, accord- ing to the Army, was to ‘‘exercise the command and control elements of tactical and support units in the absence of actual maneuver elements.’’ HAWK missile Army Private Charles Simmons, son of Mrs. Jane Simmons of 235 E. Market St., Marietta, recently completed a 33-week course in testing and main- tenance of the HAWK missile launcher’s electron- ics systems. Charles, who entered the Army in October, 1976, is a 1976 grad of DHS. Brinkman enlists Charles Brinkman, Jr., son of Mrs. Judith Axe of Bainbridge, recently en- listed in the Air Force. He will train in mechanics after boot camp.: - Route 283 & Manheim-Mt. Joy exit. To date the dept. has responded to 75 fire calls and 28 service calls. The Chief also announ- ced a repelling class for members to be held October 17 and October 22. Chief Engineer Galen Rutt reported there is some trouble with the pump on the 49 LaFrance. The dept. decided to purchase the necessary parts and do the work themselves.
