Page 12 - SUSQUEHANNA TIMES Letters; To animal or cat lovers; I live at 683 W. Market St., Marietta and have been feeding stray cats this past year. It has become financially impossible for me to feed them any more. Two of them had 2 litters of kittens each since spring. I wrote the mayor and he kindly helped as much as he could. He called the Police and they called the Humane Shelter —and they picked up the ones they could that were tame, but the problem is about six of them cannot be picked up because they are wild, including the mother cat who now has kittens hidden To— All voters of the Donegal School District, Republi- cans, Democrats, and In- dependents. Election Day, Tuesday, November 8th, you have a very important choice to decide—that of ‘‘School Director.’ One candidate alone is the outstanding, preferable selection—‘‘Jeff’’ Hartzler —a man we desperately need. He is a man of integrity, qualified in every sense of the word—morally, intel- lectually, and ethically. " Today, the moral fibre of our country is at a breaking point. Locally, on our own School Board, we need a morally concerned man ~ who upholds quality educa- tion. ‘““Jeff’’ Hartzler is a gentleman who is honest, some place and they will be wild. After they picked up the ones they could get 1 made up my mind I have to stop feeding the rest. But it is so pitiful even though I can’t pick them up, they come sit on my porch and look in my doors and windows and it makes me sick, literally, to ignore them. So, 1 thought maybe someone who loves animals or cats would be willing to try to trap them. I have no transportation myself, and I just cannot afford to feed them. : ~_ Sincerely, Ruth L. Simmons conservative, and holds the interests of the tax-payers in trust. Party affiliation is a ‘“label’’ that should be passe in this year’s crucial School Board election. One vote —ene man —*‘“Jeff’’ Hartzler. Be an individual ‘‘think- er’’ and not a ‘‘prisoner”’ of the ‘‘party dictators.” Thank you. A life long Republivas, Edith M. Charles P.S. For the interest of the voting area citizenry— there are nine (9) men on the Donegal School Board and the entire nine (9) are Republicans. We need a representa- tive body and now is the time for a welcome change. This, especially, for all selective Republicans. Underdogs at the top of the ladder; Indians lead section, but experts think they’ll crumble next Friday ‘““This is the most important game ever,’ says Indian coach Gayne Deshler. He's talking about next Friday’s home game between the Donegal and Lampeter-Strasburg foot; ball teams. Right now, Donegal is in sole possession of first place in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon Football League — but only by half a game. Two teams, Lebanon Catholic and Lampeter- Strasburg, are breathing down the Indians’ necks, and they both have very warm breath. L-S has lost only twice, and one of those losses was to undefeated Penn Manor, which plays most of its games in another section. L-S is led by quarterback Doug Smoot, who’s the best passer and the best runner in the league. (He has carried the ball 70 yards farther than Donegal Look out Marietta! Here come those Witches, ghosts, and goblins will be seen roam- ing the streets of Marietta! In spite of their diminutive size (Smoot weighs about 145 Ibs., the two halfbacks about 135 each), they are impressive ground-gainers. Their speed is legendary. In short, most football experts think L-S is going to win. (One well-known expert has observed that Solanco, the only team which beat the Indians this year, lost to L-S 47-7.) L-S is also an older, more experienced team. Most of the players who beat Donegal last year will be returning to Mount Joy on Friday. On paper, the Indians have only one thing going for them: for once, they’ll have an edge in physical bulk. If they can prevent the L-S backfield and pass The parade will be jolted into existence at Riverview Elementary School. It will creep up Market Street, ooze over Bridge Street, and scream down Walnut Street, before slithering into Jaycee headquarters. The most dangerous moments of the game for the Indians will occur during kickoffs and punt returns. L-S specializes in scoring from such unlikely situations. When they have room to run, they fly. Donegal played a slightly sloppy game against Ann- ville-Cleona last week. The defense allowed a 32-yard touchdown pass in the last quarter. A-C scored its other touchdown of the game after a 40 yard run. Both plays resulted from a momentary softening of the Indian defense — the kind of play that L-S would have exploited with ever! more devastating effects. In spite of their less- than-par performance, the Indians won the game 22-16. THE DARK! starting on October 21st. The doors will be opened at 7:00 PM and closed at 11:00. The creaky old school’s spirits will also be available for those without heart conditions on every one of the next nine days (same hours), except the October 19, 1977 As usual, Pete Splain led the Donegal scoring parade with two touchdowns and three conversion kicks. Pete charged 148 yards on 22 carries in the game. Arlen Mummau picked up another six points on a three yard dash. A-C specializes in option plays, one of the Indians’ defensive weak points. The defense performed well enough to win the game, holding A-C’s star quarter- back, Mike Sorentino, to 70 passing yards. Sorentino hurled the ball 11 times, connected S times, and was intercepted twice. Next Friday, we’ll find out whether the Indians can contain Smoot. Expect a hard-fought game, with the Indians plodding slowly but ef- fectively on the ground, while L-S counters with sudden burst of speed and aerial fireworks. Jaycees 26th.
